Card View (New look for Hot Deals forum)

It's nice to see the new card view (I think it's new) in browser. This is a small step to return some of the lost functionality since the forum app was abandoned. Primarily the "mark forum as read" option. However, I don't see a way to distinguish what threads have been read or not. Would it be possible to bold, add dot, etc for the threads that haven't been read? This allows your members to browse and see where they've last viewed the forum. Thank you in advance

came here to comment the same. New layout doesn't distinguish threads with unread comments vs. ones you've already visted/read.

Would have been nice, as well, if it were "infinite scroll" so you dont have to fiddle with pagination.
Thanks!

Let me see what we can do about this. I agree that there should be a way to distinguish what's been read versus what's new.

Also, the classic (old) view has not gone away. You can freely switch back and forth using the menu at the top right of the forum.

I came here to look for answers as to why the Hot Deals thread looked like sh*t. The new format is not for me. Maybe there should be poll, or if there is, please point me the way to downvote the new format.

Also the new format pops up so irregularily it looks like an error.

We're currently testing a new design of the Hot Deals forum for a select portion of website visitors. If you want to switch back you can use the menu to the right of the Trending tab and change to "Classic view".

The option to choose classic or card view will always be there.

For some constructive feedback, my main objection to the new format is that it looks too busy. It doesn't appear concise is the best way I can describe it.

I was attempting to test drive the new format,<ed: on mobile,> , but I've encountered an inconsistent response within the new format, see attached. When I attempted to use the "First page, Last page" buttons, I occasionally saw the options, but other times I was taken right to the first page or the last page without the option choice. I have tested other threads and have encounter the same problem. I would post a video of this if I could.

The addition of an image is a net plus. This might avoid some confusion over what the deal is if someone is not familiar with the product or service. The image is a little large as a percentage of the space, especially on mobile, but that might be not picking. I'll need to see more to make to better judge this.

I'm glad both New and Classic view choices are there.

    Reviewing via mobile site.

Not bad start but WAY too much white/negative space all over.

The All, Black Friday, and Trending tabs have a ton of useless space around them and reduces the amount of deals on the Hot Deals page.

Card view only shows 4 rows of deals on my phone - all of which are stickied sponsored threads. Classic view shows 6.

I get that the row is truncated by the image used for the deal, but I think a set height would be better.

Save some space by maybe moving the retailer button and expiry in line with the OP name. Also not sure if I like how the non-filterable retailer button is clickable but just brings you to the deal - the old way of having it be text based was more intuitive.

Font spacing seems to be much higher between lines in Cars view as well.

Just what I've picked up on so far...led a few IT teams before lol so I got a little nitpicky right off the bat. Good start though!

Black Friday is probably the worst time to test this

Here to add my 2 cents that in its current format, I will switch back to the classic view. Just way too much going on.

New layout appeared today for me. Way too loaded and spacing makes it hard to read. I prefer the good old "vBulletin" look to the new "digg" format. I switched back thanks to the tip in this thread. Please don't nuke the classic look.

New look bad, old stuff good. Mark77 best. Please resurrect both him and the old view. Thanks.

Nobody ever upvote me again. I have 600 upvotes and that is the PERFECT number. Don't hit that button. I know it's tempting given my high quality posts on RedFlagDeals.com, the best page on the Internet since 1998 - but please don't hit that button.

I just wish they would add the option to "mark forum as read" in the classic view. Right now I need to switch back and forth or use "desktop mode" on my mobile browser.

Edit: Looks like I've lost access to card view. More I'm back to the miserable experience of switching to desktop mode just to mark the forum as read and then switch back.

I wish RFD could simply add the "mark forum as read" and jump to first unread comment as default to thread browsing. Both of these features worked perfectly in the Forum app. Since that app was abandoned, my participation had gone to nearly zero because the experience is just so painful to use compared to before. The card view made things "slightly" better in terms of functionality, but still falls far short of what we had before.

Here because I'm struggling to digest the hot deals forum on mobile.
Adding a screenshot for reference but I'm using chrome on my (rfd sourced) Samsung Galaxy FE23.
There's just too much going on around the titles, which is what I want to focus on.
I'm surprised to see the name of the OP getting so much focus, because that doesn't matter to me at all. The pictures being people's own photos or screenshot makes the page look a bit junky.
If I was working on this, I woild make the listing's page start with the title, then go to the tags about retailers, then the rest of the details.

I like the new look but that's not for the "forums" section..Let's not reinvent the wheel, just have a look at slick deals.net. Forums is just a boring forum, but they feature some of those deals to the home page that looks like this proposed look.

I’m glad we can switch back to classic view. The new card style is way too busy and hard to read on mobile.

@TomRFD How come I can no longer choose the new card view?

It much easier to switch between card and classic view to have the "mark as read" option exposed, opposed to switching to desktop mode, zooming, switching back etc.

The phases of people being admitted to the preview isn't based on account, but rather done by cookies. If you somehow lost it and want back in, let me know and I can manually add your account to the group.
