The most intriguing aspect of life is DEATH And the irony is unlike birth death is inevitable A human brain is such that it does not fear of what it knows it fears of what it doesn t like what happens after deathAfter reading endless tales of people sharing their postdeath experience humans have come down to two conclusions there is a white light between life and death and you meet other dead peopleA user on Quora recounts his frightening encounter with death and narrates the exact series of events that happened during the 52 seconds of his death We bet this spinechilling narration is something you have never heard or read before I have been dead for 52 seconds on the Operation Table and then again when I was in the ICU I slipped into coma This happened in 2012 when a truck crushed me under its 12 wheelsI still remember that as I inched closer to the huge gap that is between the first 4 wheels and the last 6 wheels of a long trailer truck my brain was in the process of diluting the colors from the world I could see everything was turning black and white as my body was preparing itself to take the blowWhen I finally fell and the last 6 wheels went over my spine and legs the pain was excruciating At that moment I had broken my entire rib cage my legs were crushed but they were still attached to my body My liver was cut in half and the half was floating inside my body My left kidney burst not being able to handle the pressure of the truck on me and I dislocated many many bones on my body A part of my face near the eyes flew off to reveal the bones underneath My circulatory system was devastated and I developed a heart blockageSo after giving anesthesia the doctors concluded that I had 5 chance of survival and they performed an experimental surgery on me for 8 hours between which I supposedly diedI know what others have told you but at that moment when I was dead I saw my recently deceased grandmother who was patting me on my temples Everything was in black and white Nothing except my eyes were moving so she started patting harder and called out my name she kept calling and calling and calling until I decided I would put my entire might to answer her I opened my mouth and gasped struggling for air My grandmother looked at me and smiled And then I came back to the real world and subconsciously felt the cold operating table and blaring AC inside the Theatre Maybe she had appeared before me to push back my spirit in my body so that I could live againA day after my operation my condition wasnt improving on top of that I was hallucinating and had a bad cold and was unable to breathe It was only then doctors found out my left lung was damaged and was not working properly and both of the lungs had fluid filled within them So they put me in an automatic breathing machine which pushes air into your lungs It is extremely painful and makes you extremely thirsty However I didnt last the night and slipped into a coma when nobody was lookingIt was then when I saw that my brain was playing back everything it had recorded for the 18 years I had lived in first person However I found out I can switch to third person on my will So I saw my own birth my first day at school my first fight at 3 years of age my first song that I sung at 4 years of age things that I normally didnt remember I also saw myself slipping into a comaEverything was okay at first but then the playback in my brain went into an infinite loop when the order of events reached my accident It was repeatedly showing me what happened in those brief 2 seconds when my body had shut itself down and everything went black The eyes and the brain were still recording the events it seems And it was an unending loop It was painful and I was crying to make myself stop I screamed out at myself the third person me but I wouldnt listenthe first person me I dont know how much I screamed and how much I suffered fighting the endless battle with myself And then I fell asleep tired It was a timely dream of falling that woke myself up still in third person and had enough force to stop the recording from playingIn my dream I saw my grandmother and I were swinging in the playground when I was 4 I remember she swung so hard that it threw me off balance and I hurtled towards the ground from a height of 5 feet It was that falling sensation that saved me by waking me up Again my grandmothers memories had saved meAfter those events I quickly recovered Both my feet were to be amputated as the popliteal artery in both were snapped but the doctors healed them I started walking backwards on the 17th day and started walking front on the 22nd day I was discharged from the hospital on the 36th day and started college only after 20 days afterI dont know if I gave an appropriate answer to your question I just shared what I had feltThe most intriguing aspect of life is DEATH And the irony is unlike birth death is inevitable A human brain is such that it does not will be keeping its date with Spiruality on 21st December 2012 Latest important news REUTERS 28102012 Massive 77 mg earthquake hits British Columbia of Canada TOI 14092012 63 Mg Earquake shakes Indomesia Tsunami warning not issued Why Mayan Calendar is given so much importancThe Modern world belived that the Earth was fixed and was the center of the universe and the Sun Moon and stars rotated around Earth as stated in the Bible For the 1st time Nicolaus Copernicus rewrote the astomical laws in 1543 just before his death saying that earth was rotating the sun by publishing his epochal book De revolutionibus orbium coelestium Galileo agreed with Copernicus and was put under house arrest 4000 miles away in Central America the Mayans who were far advanced in astronomy had in 3125 BC had clear views about earth rotating the sun the planets stars Galaxy equinox etc and were maintaining the Mayan Calendar which made predictions millions of years into the future The Mayans Culture and knowledge was destroyed by the Spanish Conquest around 1590 1600 What ever has remained of thier knowledge has been now recognized as of great importance in the 20th Century About Mayan EmpireThe Mayan Empire centered in Central America reached the peak of its power and influence around the sixth century AD The Mayans were very advanced in hieroglyph writing calendarmaking and mathematics The Classic period spanned AD 250900 and saw the rise of major cities including Tikal in what is now Guatemala and the construction of vast stepped pyramidsThe Mayans meticulosuly maintianed a Calendar known as Long Count Knowlege of Mayan astronoimical calendars came from books produced centuries after their society declined The most famous is the Dresden Codex which dates from the 11th or 12th century The Dresden Codex was the summit artistically calligraphically and intellectually The Mayan calendar suddenly ends on 21st December 2012 which date we are fast approaching There has been a huge amount of controversial discussion going on as to why the Mayan Calendar has ended on 21st Dec 2012 What has destiny in store for us on that day The Mayan cities were abandoned by AD 900 Since the 19th century scholars have debated what might have caused this dramatic decline MAYAN CALENDAR Why is 21st December 2012 considered so importantThe date December 21st 2012 AD represents an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator Equator of the Milky Way and the Ecliptic path of the Sun what the ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred TreeThis is confirmed by Astophysists and also spirutualists This is an event that has been coming to resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years It will come to resolution at exactly 1111 am GMT 1111 is a Star GatePortal Prime NO 130000 in the Long Count EARTH WOBBLING AROUND IN THE MILKY WAY As seen from the image above our Sun and planatery system wobbles in the Milky way and once in 25800 years alingns with the Milky Way Galatic Equator This alignment is expecected to take place on 21st December 2012 at 1111 GMT What does the alignment signifyScientists and astophysists say that the movement to wards the alignment and the alignment itself exposes our planatery system to increased doses of radiation bombardment from our Celestial neighbours increase in temperatures earthquakes tsunamies extreme climates droughts very heary rainfall snow fall etc as there will be an increase in the gavitational forces Added to this we are also in the middle of a Sun39s Pole Shit and too an uneven polar shit on the Sun as per the Hinode Obervatory Data which is also causing increse in Solar39storms earth quakes volcano activity etc We have in fact been experiencing major earthquakes tsunamies exceptionally heavy rainfall snowfall since 2005 and some of the heaviest in the 201112 USA has worst drought since 1956 due to extreme climatic the Vedic scriptures Kali Yug will last for 4 32 000 yrs and only 5 000 yrs have elasped so far Media is strongly publicising that calendars like Mayan IChing Hopi calendars prophesize an end on 21st December 2012 AND a new beginning there after The big Question is END TO WHAT The world as we know it NO NO NO is the ans The Web Bot Project prediction about the Twin Towers proved accurate and the royal palace and a tomb believed to hold the city39s first ruler who lived around AD 350 to 400Around the same time Houston and a colleague spotted the first hints of the Temple of the Night Sun CKRABORTHY PARTICLE PHYSICSTAs a theoretical physicist I liked your spiritual part of the blog simply bcoz I am yet to understand the concept of conciousness but as far as the physical details are concerned well there is some misinfo Firstly according to the latest data NEITHER THE SUN NOR THE EARTH ARE GOING TO CROSS THE GALACTIC PLANE FOR THE NEXT 29 MILLION YEARS AND THE SUN IS AROUND 100 LIGHT YEARS AWAY FROM THE GALACTIC PLANE Then what is gonna happen in 2012 As far as physics is concerned nothing is gonna happen for the only special thing that is happening will be the fact that the earth is going to cross the equatorial plane in DECEMBER 2012 a thing that happens twice a yearNothing else is gonna happenAt the end when nothing will happen they will just extend the date to perhaps 2034 just like they did in 1998by the way these type of things were discussed in1998 too when there could relatively have been a greater cause for fear as the solstice points had crossed the galactic equator but we physicists then too knew that nothing was gonna happen as that was only a result of the coordinate system nomenclatureFor me the Mayan or any other calendar doesn39t hold significant as any physical reaction must have a corresponding physical action and in this case there is no such physical action Only a few completely unnatural things eg a large chunk of invisible dark matter coming towards us can cause such a strong excess gravitational field and I am 999999 sure about this that the Mayans could not have predicted theseWe should put a limitation to our imagination if we are devoid of facts as an evil mind is a devil39s workshop Things like extra solar flares or the shifting of poles till now are perceived to be completely normal for newer things like these keep on appearing every yearI keep a close watch on these type of things this year the media hype is making them noticeable to the general publicAnd as for the spirituality part I couldn39t grasp it I request u to please help me in this regardMAJORITY OPINION1 DOOMSDAY PREDICTION IS ONLY MEDIA HYPE TO MAKE MONEY2 INCREASE IN NATURAL CALAMITIES DUE TO GALATIC ALIGNMENT IS HAPPENING AND WILL CONTINUE TILL She has a soul that loves to travel and experience new adventures and a voice that doesn t mind letting people know to keep their minds in their own businesses So when Lucy Hemmings a British blogger student settled in Mumbai India decided to share her experiences of traveling in India she didn t shy away from mentioning incidences where she was masturbated at in public By the time she turned 26 Lucy had traveled at least half of the world before she decided to settle in Mumbai She spent some eventful years in India most of her experiences went pleasant and a few did disturb her stay In her blog she shared with fellow travelers about two incidences where she was openly masturbated by Indian men here s what she wrote A few days ago I was sitting in a bus stop in Mumbai India The local guy that I had paid no particular attention to moved closer From the corner of my eye to my horror I realised that he had pulled out his penis and was masturbating staring intently at me I felt sickAs much as I hate to admit it this isn t the first time it s happened to me In fact chances are if you ve ever been to India you ll have bumped into at least one traveller who has experienced this sort of behaviour or heard of someone else who it has happened to I ve spent countless hours with other travellers picking apart why men do it why they seem to think it s okay why dignity seems to disappear when there s foreign female flesh on showThe first time this happened to me was back in 2012 I was 23 and it was my first trip to a developing country Along the way I d met an Australian girl Gemma and we ended up spending 3 months or so travelling India together At the time we were wandering through Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram Or The Beatles Ashram to you and I in the northern town of Rishikesh when I spotted a man hiding in the bushes watching us and wankingMy horror quickly turned to hysterical laughter Gemma and I screamed profanities laughed pointed and threw rocks at him Laughing empowered me I felt we sent a very clear message that we weren t intimidated by him and that we thought he was pathetic It was because of this that the next time a man masturbated in front of me I was travelling alone at this point and in a train station I felt perfectly comfortable laughing as loudly as I could catching the attention of every person in that station screaming LOOK AT THIS DISGUSTING MAN WITH HIS TINY PENIS OUT HOW EMBARRASSING The man skulked off I laughed for a while and that was it I spent no more time thinking about itFast forward three years and to the man a few days ago I m not entirely sure why I felt so different and why this time affected me so much Obviously I m a few years older and an ounce or so more careful but I still feel like I m the same freespirited and optimistic person why was this experience so difficult for me For days afterwards I was nervous walking anywhere on my own I stopped making eye contact at anyone in the street and I started carrying a pocket knife I only ate in busy restaurants sitting near families with children and I stopped smiling at any men even the familiar faces of men who ran the guesthouse I was staying inAfter much much deliberation and analysis of my own feelings I realised I was angry for three reasonsThis man took away my freedomI LOVE that I m a yes girl I love that if an opportunity comes my way then rarely do I think through the reasons why I shouldn t I say yes and I pack my bags I follow my heart but I listen to my head I love that I have so many stories that start with Well I got talking with this guy in a restaurant and next we re exploring an abandoned village or Yeah I met this couple and next thing you know I m dancing in their wedding Both true storiesMy adventurous and curious nature is something I hold so dearly as a part of who I am but I felt like this disgusting pervert of a man had snatched it away from me For the three days following that experience I have very little to talk about I kept myself to myself and questioned decisions I had made in the past Was I stupid to have taken what I would now call a riskHe made me question whether I was right to defend India throughout the rape trials and India in general actuallyThroughout the widely publicized Delhi bus rape case I felt like my love for India was constantly being tested People in my local town who knew nothing more about India than what a chicken korma tastes like made scathing comments on what a filthy country it is and how wrong Indian culture is On a normal day I am totally besotted with India I m so willing to talk of the endless reasons why India is without a doubt my favourite country to travel and I ve recurrently made it my mission to convince others that they should travel there too Throughout the trial I devoted ludicrous amounts of time explaining to idiots who frequented the bar I was working in why they were wrong and why this news story was only one miniscule aspect of life in IndiaI was beginning to question these original feelings and wondering if the miniscule aspect was in fact far more serious and prevalent than I had recently observed through my rosetinted glassesI was playing by India s rules why wasn t India playing backThroughout the day here in India I cover myself completely I usually dress in Indian clothes a salwar kameez a type of long tunic and loose trousers even when it is swelteringly hot I look at men wearing shorts with envy and wish I could put on my hotpants and bikini top On the rare occasion an opportunity to swim presents itself I still wear long trousers and a long shirt despite the fact that wearing clothes makes doing handstands really difficult Except of course in Goa the Magaluf of IndiaI was once in Amritsar a city in the north of India to see The Golden Temple the holiest place on earth for Sikhs when an American girl walked past me in hotpants I felt so cross that this girl was disobeying India s customsAnyway my point is is that I make a huge effort to fit in with Indian traditions when I m here Is it too much to ask for this man to wait twenty minutes until he s home to beat one outI decided to put some feelers out for other people with similar experiences I put up a message on a Travel Blogging Community I belong to asking if people had ever had comparable encounters When I logged in the next day I was horrified to see that it was happening to people every dayOne girl Aleah Phils Of Solitary Wanderer experience stood out the most to me she was repeatedly groped during Holi festival in Varanasi India and had learned that this type of harassment actually has a name Eve Teasing Yes Eve as in Adam and Eve referring to the temptress nature of Eve and disturbingly placing responsibility on the woman as the tease After I read her blog post I could only imagine how horrible this was for herScarily this wasn t just happening in India in fact in just one day I had heard from over 45 girls who had experienced this in over 20 countries I d even heard from a handful of men who d been flashed at or gropedI hit the threeday mark of feeling uneasy I decided I absolutely would not allow this man and his tiny penis to make me feel this way After I had gone through the three reasons why I had felt so frustrated I felt slightly better It seems knowledge really is power The support from others that had similar experiences helped too In a slightly depressing sort of way But in short I think I just made a conscious decision not to allow this man to take who I am as a person As I said before I love smiling at people Why should I be made to stop now There are far far more incredible adventures that have come from smiling than horrible ones like this Courtesy earned him a prophetlike reputation in the West His elegant prose and magical poetry remain largely unknown outside Bengal4 Tagore introduced new prose and verse forms and the use of colloquial language into Bengali literature thereby freeing it from traditional models based on classical Sanskrit He was highly influential in introducing the best of Indian culture to the West and vice versa and he is generally regarded as the outstanding creative artist of modern India5A Pirali Brahmin6789 from Calcutta Tagore wrote poetry as an eightyearold10 At age sixteen he released his first substantial poems under the pseudonymBh nusi ha Sun Lion which were seized upon by literary authorities as longlost classics511 He graduated to his first short stories and dramas and the aegis of his birth name by 1877 As a humanist universalist internationalist and strident antinationalist he denounced the Raj and advocated independence from Britain As an exponent of the Bengal Renaissance he advanced a vast canon that comprised paintings sketches and doodles hundreds of texts and some two thousand songs his legacy endures also in the institution he founded VisvaBharati UniversityTagore modernised Bengali art by spurning rigid classical forms and resisting linguistic strictures His novels stories songs dancedramas and essays spoke to topics political and personal Gitanjali Song Offerings Gora FairFaced and GhareBaire The Home and the World are his bestknown works and his verse short stories and novels were acclaimed or panned for their lyricism colloquialism naturalism and unnatural contemplation His compositions were chosen by two nations as national anthems the Republic of India39s Jana Gana Mana and Bangladesh39s Amar Shonar Bangla The composer of Sri Lanka39s national anthem Sri Lanka Matha was a student of Tagore and the song is inspired by Tagore39s style 12Contents show Early life 1861 1878Main article Early life of Rabindranath TagoreThe youngest of thirteen surviving children Tagore was born in the Jorasanko mansion in Calcutta India to parents Debendranath Tagore 1817 1905 and Sarada Devi 1830 1875 13 Tagore family patriarchs were the Brahmo founders of the Adi Dharm faith The loyalist Prince Dwarkanath Tagore who employed European estate managers and visited with Victoria and other royalty was his paternal grandfather14 Debendranath had formulated the Brahmoist philosophies espoused by his friend Ram Mohan Roy and became focal in Brahmo society after Roy39s death1516The last two days a storm has been raging similar to the description in my song Jhauro jhauro borishe baridhara amidst it a hapless homeless man drenched from top to toe standing on the roof of his steamer the last two days I have been singing this song over and over as a result the pelting sound of the intense rain the wail of the wind the sound of the heaving Gorai River have assumed a fresh life and found a new language and I have felt like a major actor in this new musical drama unfolding before me Letter to Indira Devi17Rabi was raised mostly by servants his mother had died in his early childhood and his father travelled widely18 His home hosted the publication of literary magazines theatre and recitals of both Bengali and Western classical music featured there regularly as the Jorasanko Tagores were the center of a large and artloving social group Tagore39s oldest brother Dwijendranath was a respected philosopher and poet Another brother Satyendranath was the first Indian appointed to the elite and formerly allEuropean Indian Civil Service Yet another brother Jyotirindranath was a musician composer and playwright19 His sisterSwarnakumari became a novelist Jyotirindranath39s wife Kadambari slightly older than Tagore was a dear friend and powerful influence Her abrupt suicide in 1884 left him for years profoundly distraughtTagore largely avoided classroom schooling and preferred to roam the manor or nearby Bolpur and Panihati idylls which the family visited2021 His brother Hemendranath tutored and physically conditioned him by having him swim the Ganges or trek through hills by gymnastics and by practicing judo and wrestling He learned drawing anatomy geography and history literature mathematics Sanskrit and English his least favorite subject22 Tagore loathed formal education his scholarly travails at the local Presidency College spanned a single day Years later he held that proper teaching does not explain things proper teaching stokes curiosity23Sketch by Gaganendranath Tagore of Rabi in 1877 the year of the first Bh nusi ha poem It knocks at the doors of the mind If any boy is asked to give an account of what is awakened in him by such knocking he will probably say something silly For what happens within is much bigger than what comes out in words Those who pin their faith on university examinations as the test of education take no account of this23 After he underwent an upanayan initiation at age eleven he and his father left Calcutta in February 1873 for a monthslong tour of the Raj They visited his father39s Santiniketanestate and rested in Amritsar en route to the Himalayan Dhauladhars their destination being the remote hill station at Dalhousie Along the way Tagore read biographies his father tutored him in history astronomy and Sanskrit declensions He read biographies of Benjamin Franklin among other figures they discussed Edward Gibbon39s The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire and they examined the poetry of K lid sa24 In midApril they reached the station and at 2 300 metres 7 546 ft they settled into a house that sat atop Bakrota Hill Tagore was taken aback by the region39s deep green gorges alpine forests and mossy streams and waterfalls25 They stayed there for several months and adopted a regime of study and privation that included daily twilight baths taken in icy water2627He returned to Jorosanko and completed a set of major works by 1877 one of them a long poem in the Maithili style of Vidyapati they were published pseudonymously Regional experts accepted them as the lost works of Bh nusimha a newly discovered 17thcentury Vaishnava poet28 He debuted the shortstory genre in Bengali with Bhikharini The Beggar Woman 2930 and his Sandhya Sangit 1882 includes the famous poem Nirjharer Swapnabhanga The Rousing of the Waterfall Servants subjected him to an almost ludicrous regimentation in a phase he dryly reviled as the servocracy31 His head was waterdunked to quiet him32 He irked his servants by refusing food he was confined to chalk circles in parody of Sita39s forest trial in the Ramayana and he was regaled with the heroic criminal exploits of Bengal39s outlawdacoits33 Because the Jorasanko manor was in an area of north Calcutta rife with poverty and prostitution 34 he was forbidden to leave it for any purpose other than traveling to school He thus became preoccupied with the world outside and with nature Of his 1873 visit to Santiniketan he wrote What I could not see did not take me long to get over what I did see was quite enough There was no servant rule and the only ring which encircled me was the blue of the horizon drawn around these solitudes by their presiding goddess Within this I was free to move about as I chose35 Shelaidaha 1878 1901Because Debendranath wanted his son to become a barrister Tagore enrolled at a public school in Brighton East Sussex England in 187817 He stayed for several months at a house that the Tagore family owned near Brighton and Hove in Medina Villas in 1877 his nephew and niece Suren and Indira Devi the children of Tagore39s brother Satyendranath were sent together with their mother Tagore39s sisterinlaw to live with him36 He briefly read law at University College London but again left school He opted instead for independent study of Shakespeare Religio Medici Coriolanus and Antony and Cleopatra Lively English Irish and Scottish folk tunes impressed Tagore whose own tradition of Nidhubabuauthored kirtans and tappas and Brahmo hymnody was subdued1737 In 1880 he returned to Bengal degreeless resolving to reconcile European novelty with Brahmo traditions taking the best from each38 In 1883 he married Mrinalini Devi born Bhabatarini 1873 1902 they had five children two of whom died in childhood39Photo by John Rothenstein Hampstead 1912In 1890 Tagore began managing his vast ancestral estates in Shelaidaha today a region of Bangladesh he was joined by his wife and children in 1898 Tagore released hisManasi poems 1890 among his bestknown work40 As Zamindar Babu Tagore crisscrossed the riverine holdings in command of the Padma the luxurious family barge He collected mostly token rents and blessed villagers who in turn honoured him with banquets occasionally of dried rice and sour milk41 He met Gagan Harkara through whom he became familiar with Baul Lalon Shah whose folk songs greatly influenced Tagore42 Tagore worked to popularise Lalon39s songs The period 1891 1895 Tagore39sSadhana period named after one of Tagore39s magazines was his most productive18 in these years he wrote more than half the stories of the threevolume 84storyGalpaguchchha29 Its ironic and grave tales examined the voluptuous poverty of an idealised rural Bengal43Santiniketan 1901 1932Main article Middle years of Rabindranath TagoreIn year39s Nobel Prize in Literature the Swedish Academyappreciated the idealistic and for Westerners accessible nature of a small body of his translated material focussed on the 1912 Gitanjali Song Offerings46 In 1915 the British Crown granted Tagore a knighthood He renounced it after the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacreIn 1921 Tagore and agricultural economist Leonard Elmhirst set up the Institute for Rural Reconstruction later renamed Shriniketan or Abode of Welfare in Surul a village near the ashram With it Tagore sought to moderate Gandhi39s Swaraj protests which he occasionally blamed for British India39s perceived mental and thus ultimately colonial decline47 He sought aid from donors officials and scholars worldwide to free villages from the shackles of helplessness and ignorance by vitalising knowledge4849 In the early 1930s he targeted ambient abnormal caste consciousness and untouchability He lectured against these he penned Dalit heroes for his poems and his dramas and he campaigned successfully to open Guruvayoor Temple to Dalits5051Twilight years 1932 1941Main article Latter life of Rabindranath TagoreIn Berlin 1930Tagore39s life as a peripatetic litterateur affirmed his opinion that human divisions were shallow During a May 1932 visit to a Bedouin encampment in the Iraqi desert the tribal chief told him that Our prophet has said that a true Muslim is he by whose words and deeds not the least of his brothermen may ever come to any harm Tagore confided in his diary I was startled into recognizing in his words the voice of essential humanity52 To the end Tagore scrutinised orthodoxy and in 1934 he struck That year an earthquake hit Bihar and killed thousands Gandhi hailed it as seismic karma as divine retribution avenging the oppression of Dalits Tagore rebuked him for his seemingly ignominious inferences53 He mourned the perennial poverty of Calcutta and the socioeconomic decline of Bengal He detailed these newly plebeian aesthetics in an unrhymed hundredline poem whose technique of searing doublevision foreshadowed Satyajit Ray39s film Apur Sansar5455 Fifteen new volumes appeared among them prosepoem works Punashcha 1932 Shes Saptak 1935 and Patraput 1936 Experimentation continued in his prosesongs and dancedramas Chitra 1914 Shyama1939 and Chandalika 1938 and in his novels Dui Bon 1933 Malancha 1934 and Char Adhyay 1934Clouds come floating into my life no longer to carry rain or usher storm but to add color to my sunset sky Verse 292 Stray Birds 1916Tagore39s remit expanded to science in his last years as hinted in VisvaParichay 1937 collection of essays His respect for scientific laws and his exploration of biology physics and astronomy informed his poetry which exhibited extensive naturalism and verisimilitude56 He wove the process of science the narratives of scientists into stories in Se 1937 Tin Sangi 1940 and Galpasalpa 1941 His last five years were marked by chronic pain and two long periods of illness These began when Tagore lost consciousness in late 1937 he remained comatose and near death for a time This was followed in late 1940 by a similar spell He never recovered Poetry from these valetudinary years is among his finest5758 A period of prolonged agony ended with Tagore39s death on 7 August 1941 aged eighty he was in an upstairs room of the Jorasanko mansion he was raised in5960 The date is still mourned61 A K Sen brother of the first chief election commissioner received dictation from Tagore on 30 July 1941 a day prior to a scheduled operation his last poem62 TravelsAt the Majlis Tehran 193263Between 1878 and 1932 Tagore set foot in more than thirty countries on five continents64 In 1912 he took a sheaf of his translated works to England where they gained attention from missionary and Gandhi prot g Charles F Andrews Irish poet William Butler Yeats Ezra Pound Robert Bridges Ernest Rhys Thomas Sturge Moore and others65 Yeats wrote the preface to the English translation of Gitanjali Andrews joined Tagore at Santiniketan In November 1912 Tagore began touring the United States66and the United Kingdom staying in Butterton Staffordshire with Andrews39s clergymen friends67 From May 1916 until April 1917 he lectured in Japan and the United States68 He denounced nationalism69 His essay Nationalism in India was scorned and praised it was admired by Romain Rolland and other pacifists70Our passions and desires are unruly but our character subdues these elements into a harmonious whole Does something similar to this happen in the physical world Are the elements rebellious dynamic with individual impulse And is there a principle in the physical world which dominates them and puts them into an orderly organization Interviewed by Einstein 14 April 193071Shortly after returning home the 63yearold Tagore accepted an invitation from the Peruvian government He travelled to Mexico Each government pledged US100 000 to his school to commemorate the visits72 A week after his 6 November 1924 arrival in Buenos Aires 73 an ill Tagore shifted to the Villa Miralr o at the behest of Victoria Ocampo He left for home in January 1925 In May 1926 Tagore reached Naples the next day he met Mussolini in Rome74 Their warm rapport ended when Tagore pronounced upon Il Duce39s fascist finesse75 He had earlier enthused without any doubt he is a great personality There is such a massive vigour in that head that it reminds one of Michael Angelo s chisel A firebath of fascism was to have educed the immortal soul of Italy clothed in quenchless light76On 14 July 1927 Tagore and two companions began a fourmonth tour of Southeast Asia They visited Bali Java Kuala Lumpur Malacca Penang Siam and Singapore The resultant travelogues compose Jatri 192977 In early 1930 he left Bengal for a nearly yearlong tour of Europe and the United States Upon returning to Britain and as his paintings exhibited in Paris and London he lodged at a Birmingham Quaker settlement He wrote his Oxford Hibbert Lectures and spoke at the annual London Quaker meet78 There addressing relations between the British and the Indians a topic he would tackle repeatedly over the next two years Tagore spoke of a dark chasm of aloofness79 He visited Aga Khan III stayed at Dartington Hall toured Denmark Switzerland and Germany from June to midSeptember 1930 then went on into the Soviet Union80 In April 1932 Tagore intrigued by the Persian mystic Hafez was hosted by Reza Shah Pahlavi8182 In his other travels Tagore interacted with Henri Bergson Albert Einstein Robert Frost Thomas Mann George Bernard Shaw HG Wells and Romain Rolland838485 Visits to Persia and Iraq in 1932 and Sri Lanka in 1933 composed Tagore39s final foreign tour and his dislike of communalism and nationalism only deepened52WorksMain article Works of Rabindranath TagoreDancing Girl undated oiloncanvasTagore39s Bengalilanguage initials are worked into this RoTho wooden seal stylistically similar to designs used in traditional Haida carvings Tagore embellished his manuscripts with such art86Known mostly for his poetry Tagore wrote novels essays short stories travelogues dramas and thousands of songs Of Tagore39s prose his short stories are perhaps most highly regarded he is indeed credited with originating the Bengalilanguage version of the genre His works are frequently noted for their rhythmic optimistic and lyrical nature Such stories mostly borrow from deceptively simple subject matter commoners Tagore39s nonfiction grappled with history linguistics and spirituality He wrote autobiographies His travelogues essays and lectures were compiled into several volumes including Europe Jatrir Patro Letters from Europe and Manusher Dhormo The Religion of Man His brief chat with Einstein Note on the Nature of Reality is included as an appendix to the latter On the occasion of Tagore39s 150th birthday an anthology titled Kalanukromik Rabindra Rachanabali of the total body of his works is currently being published in Bengali in chronological order This includes all versions of each work and fills about eighty volumes87 In 2011 Harvard University Press collaborated with VisvaBharati University to publish The Essential Tagore the largest anthology of Tagore39s works available in English it was edited by Fakrul Alam and Radha Chakravarthy and marks the 150th anniversary of Tagore s birth88Music and artTagore composed 2 230 songs and was a prolific painter His songs compose rabindrasangit Tagore Song which merges fluidly into his literature most of which poems or parts of novels stories or plays alike were lyricised Influenced by the thumri style of Hindustani music they ran the entire gamut of human emotion ranging from his early dirgelike Brahmo devotional hymns to quasierotic compositions89 They emulated the tonal color of classical ragas to varying extents Some songs mimicked a given raga39s melody and rhythm faithfully others newly blended elements of different ragas90 Yet about ninetenths of his work was not bhanga gaan the body of tunes revamped with fresh value from select Western Hindustani Bengali folk and other regional flavours external to Tagore39s own ancestral culture17 Scholars have attempted to gauge the emotive force and range of Hindustani ragas the pathos of the purabi raga reminded Tagore of the evening tears of a lonely widow while kanara was the confused realization of a nocturnal wanderer who had lost his way In bhupali he seemed to hear a voice in the wind saying 39stop and come hither39Paraj conveyed to him the deep slumber that overtook one at night s end17 Reba Som Rabindranath Tagore The Singer and His Song91Tagore influenced sitar maestro Vilayat Khan and sarodiyas Buddhadev Dasgupta and Amjad Ali Khan90 His songs are widely popular and undergird the Bengali ethos to an extent perhaps rivaling Shakespeare39s impact on the Englishspeaking world It is said that his songs are the outcome of five centuries of Bengali literary churning and communal yearning Dhan Gopal Mukerji has said that these songs transcend the mundane to the aesthetic and express all ranges and categories of human emotion The poet gave voice to all big or small rich or poor The poor Ganges boatman and the rich landlord air their emotions in them They birthed a distinctive school of music whose practitioners can be fiercely traditional novel interpretations have drawn severe censure in both West Bengal and BangladeshFor Bengalis the songs39 appeal stemming from the combination of emotive strength and beauty described as surpassing even Tagore39s poetry was such that the Modern Review observed that there is in Bengal no cultured home where Rabindranath39s songs are not sung or at least attempted to be sung Even illiterate villagers sing his songs Arthur Strangways of The Observer introduced nonBengalis torabindrasangit in The Music of Hindostan calling it a vehicle of a personality that go behind this or that system of music to that beauty of sound which all systems put out their hands to seize92In 1971 Amar Shonar Bangla became the national anthem of Bangladesh It was written ironically to protest the 1905 Partition of Bengal along communal lines lopping Muslimmajority East Bengal from Hindudominated West Bengal was to avert a regional bloodbath Tagore saw the partition as a ploy to upend the independence movement and he aimed to rekindle Bengali unity and tar communalism Jana Gana Mana was written in shadhubhasha a Sanskritised register of Bengali and is the first of five stanzas of a Brahmo hymn that Tagore composed It was first sung in 1911 at a Calcutta session of theIndian National Congress and was adopted in 1950 by the Constituent Assembly of the Republic of India as its national anthemAt sixty Tagore took up drawing and painting successful exhibitions of his many works which made a debut appearance in Paris upon encouragement by artists he met in the south of France93 were held throughout Europe He was likely redgreen color blind resulting in works that exhibited strange colour schemes and offbeat aesthetics Tagore was influenced by scrimshaw from northern New Ireland Haidacarvings from British Columbia and woodcuts by Max Pechstein86 His artist39s eye for his handwriting were revealed in the simple artistic and rhythmic leitmotifs embellishing the scribbles crossouts and word layouts of his manuscripts Some of Tagore39s lyrics corresponded in a synesthetic sense with particular paintings17TheatreWith niece Indira Devi inValmiki Pratibha 1881At sixteen Tagore led his brother Jyotirindranath39s adaptation of Moli re39s Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme94 At twenty he wrote his first dramaopera Valmiki Pratibha The Genius of Valmiki In it the pandit Valmiki overcomes his sins is blessed by Saraswati and compiles the R m yana95 Through it Tagore explores a wide range of dramatic styles and emotions including usage of revamped kirtans and adaptation of traditional English and Irish folk melodies as drinking songs96 Another play Dak Ghar The Post Office describes the child Amal defying his stuffy and puerile confines by ultimately falling asleep hinting his physical death A story with borderless appeal gleaning rave reviews in Europe Dak Ghar dealt with death as in Tagore39s words spiritual freedom from the world of hoarded wealth and certified creeds9798 In the Nazibesieged Warsaw Ghetto Polish doctoreducator Janusz Korczak had orphans in his care stage The Post Office in July 194299 In The King of Children biographer Betty Jean Lifton suspected that Korczak agonising over whether one should determine when and how to die was easing the children into accepting death100101102 In midOctober the Nazis sent them to Treblinka103In days long gone by I can see the King39s postman coming down the hillside alone a lantern in his left hand and on his back a bag of letters climbing down for ever so long for days and nights and where at the foot of the mountain the waterfall becomes a stream he takes to the footpath on the bank and walks on through the rye then comes the sugarcane field and he disappears into the narrow lane cutting through the tall stems of sugarcanes then he reaches the open meadow where the cricket chirps and where there is not a single man to be seen only the snipe wagging their tails and poking at the mud with their bills I can feel him coming nearer and nearer and my heart becomes glad Amal in The Post Office 1914104 but the meaning is less intellectual more emotional and simple The deliverance sought and won by the dying child is the same deliverance which rose before his imagination when once in the early dawn he heard amid the noise of a crowd returning from some festival this line out of an old village song Ferryman take me to the other shore of the river It may come at any moment of life though the child discovers it in death for it always comes at the moment when the I seeking no longer for gains that cannot be assimilated with its spirit is able to say All my work is thine 105 W B Yeats Preface The Post Office 1914His other works fuse lyrical flow and emotional rhythm into a tight focus on a core idea a break from prior Bengali drama Tagore sought the play of feeling and not of action In 1890 he released what is regarded as his finest drama Visarjan Sacrifice95 It is an adaptation of Rajarshi an earlier novella of his A forthright denunciation of a meaningless and cruel superstitious rites 106 the Bengali originals feature intricate subplots and prolonged monologues that give play to historical events in seventeenthcentury Udaipur The devout Maharaja of Tripura is pitted against the wicked head priest Raghupati His latter dramas were more philosophical and allegorical in nature these included Dak Ghar Another is Tagore39s Chandalika Untouchable Girl which was modeled on an ancient Buddhist legend describing how Ananda the Gautama Buddha39s disciple asks a tribal girl for water107In Raktakarabi Red or Blood Oleanders a kleptocrat rules over the residents of Yakshapuri He and his retainers exploits his subjects who are benumbed by alcohol and numbered like inventory by forcing them to mine gold for him The naive maidenheroine Nandini rallies her subjectcompatriots to defeat the greed of the realm39s sardar class with the morally roused king39s belated help Skirting the goodvsevil trope the work pits a vital and joyous l se majest against the monotonous fealty of the king39s varletry giving rise to an allegorical struggle akin to that found in Animal Farm or Gulliver39s Travels108 The original though prized in Bengal long failed to spawn a free and comprehensible translation and its archaic and sonorous didacticism failed to attract interest from abroad3 Chitrangada Chandalika and Shyama are other key plays that have dancedrama adaptations which together are known as Rabindra Nritya NatyaNovelsTagore wrote eight novels and four novellas among them Chaturanga Shesher Kobita Char Odhay and Noukadubi Ghare Baire The Home and the World through the lens of the idealistic zamindarprotagonist Nikhil repudiates the frogmarch of nativism terrorism and religious querulousness popular among segments of the Swadeshi movement A frank expression of Tagore39s conflicted sentiments it was conceived of during a 1914 bout of depression The novel ends in grody HinduMuslim interplay and Nikhil39s likely death from a head wound109Gora nominated by many Bengali critics as his finest tale raises controversies regarding connate identity and its ultimate fungibility As with Ghare Baire matters of selfidentity j ti personal freedom and religion are lividly vivisected in a context of family and romance110 In it an Irish boy orphaned in the Sepoy Mutiny is raised by Hindus as the titular gora whitey Ignorant of his foreign origins he chastises Hindu religious backsliders out of love for the indigenous Indians and solidarity with them against his hegemoncompatriots He falls for a Brahmo girl compelling his worried foster father to reveal his lost past and cease his nativist zeal As a true dialectic advancing arguments for and against strict traditionalism it tackles the colonial conundrum by portraying the value of all positions within a particular frame not only syncretism not only liberal orthodoxy but the extremest reactionary traditionalism he defends by an appeal to what humans share Among these Tagore highlights identity conceived of asdharma111In Jogajog Relationships the heroine Kumudini bound by the ideals of ivaSati exemplified by D ksh yani is torn between her pity for the sinking fortunes of her progressive and compassionate elder brother and his foil her roue of a husband Tagore flaunts his feminist leanings pathos depicts the plight and ultimate demise of women trapped by pregnancy duty and family honour he simultaneously trucks with Bengal39s putrescent landed gentry112 The story revolves around the underlying rivalry between two families the Chatterjees aristocrats now on the decline Biprodas and the Ghosals Madhusudan representing new money and new arrogance Kumudini Biprodas39 sister is caught between the two as she is married off to Madhusudan She had risen in an observant and sheltered traditional home as had all her female relationsOthers were uplifting Shesher Kobita translated twice as Last Poem and Farewell Song is his most lyrical novel with poems and rhythmic passages written by a poet protagonist It contains elements of satire and postmodernism and has stock characters who gleefully attack the reputation of an old outmoded oppressively renowned poet who incidentally goes by a familiar name Rabindranath Tagore Though his novels remain among the leastappreciated of his works they have been given renewed attention via film adaptations by Ray and others Chokher Bali and Ghare Baire are exemplary In the first Tagore inscribes Bengali society via its heroine a rebellious widow who would live for herself alone He pillories the custom of perpetual mourning on the part of widows who were not allowed to remarry who were consigned to seclusion and loneliness Tagore wrote of it I have always regretted the endingStoriesA Nandalal Bose illustration for The Hero part of the 1913 Macmillan release of The Crescent MoonTagore39s threevolume Galpaguchchha comprises eightyfour stories that reflect upon the author39s surroundings on modern and fashionable ideas and on mind puzzles29Tagore associated his earliest stories such as those of the Sadhana period with an exuberance of vitality and spontaneity these traits were cultivated by zamindarTagore s life in Patisar Shajadpur Shelaidaha and other villages29 Seeing the common and the poor he examined their lives with a depth and feeling singular in Indian literature up to that point113 In The Fruitseller from Kabul Tagore speaks in first person as a town dweller and novelist imputing exotic perquisites to an Afghan seller He channels the lucubrative lust of those mired in the blas nidorous and sudorific morass of subcontinental city life for distant vistas There were autumn mornings the time of year when kings of old went forth to conquest and I never stirring from my little corner in Calcutta would let my mind wander over the whole world At the very name of another country my heart would go out to it I would fall to weaving a network of dreams the mountains the glens the forest 114The Golpoguchchho Bunch of Stories was written in Tagore39s Sabuj Patra period which lasted from 1914 to 1917 and was named for another of his magazines29 These yarns are celebrated fare in Bengali fiction and are commonly used as plot fodder by Bengali film and theatre The Ray film Charulata echoed the controversial Tagore novellaNastanirh The Broken Nest In Atithi which was made into another film the little Brahmin boy Tarapada shares a boat ride with a village zamindar The boy relates his flight from home and his subsequent wanderings Taking pity the elder adopts him he fixes the boy to marry his own daughter The night before his wedding Tarapada runs off again Strir Patra The Wife39s Letter is an early treatise in female emancipation115 Mrinal is wife to a Bengali middle class man prissy preening and patriarchal Travelling alone she writes a letter which comprehends the story She details the pettiness of a life spent entreating his viraginous virility she ultimately gives up married life proclaiming Amio bachbo Ei bachlum And I shall live Here I liveHaimanti assails Hindu arranged marriage and spotlights their often dismal domesticity the hypocrisies plaguing the Indian middle classes and how Haimanti a young woman due to her insufferable sensitivity and free spirit foredid herself In the last passage Tagore blasts the reification of Sita39s selfimmolation attempt she had meant to appease her consort Rama39s doubts of her chastity Musalmani Didi eyes recrudescent HinduMuslim tensions and in many ways embodies the essence of Tagore39s humanism The somewhat autoreferential Darpaharan describes a fey young man who harbours literary ambitions Though he loves his wife he wishes to stifle her literary career deeming it unfeminine In youth Tagore likely agreed with him Darpaharan depicts the final humbling of the man as he ultimately acknowledges his wife39s talents As do many other Tagore stories Jibito o Mrito equips Bengalis with a ubiquitous epigram Kadombini moriya proman korilo she more nai Kadombini died thereby proving that she hadn39tPoetryTagore39s poetic style which proceeds from a lineage established by 15th and 16thcentury Vaishnava poets ranges from classical formalism to the comic visionary and ecstatic He was influenced by the atavistic mysticism of Vyasa and other rishiauthors of the Upanishads the BhaktiSufi mystic Kabir and Ramprasad Sen116 Tagore39s most innovative and mature poetry embodies his exposure to Bengali rural folk music which included mystic Baul ballads such as those of the bard Lalon117118 These rediscovered and repopularised by Tagore resemble 19thcentury Kart bhaj hymns that emphasise inward divinity and rebellion against bourgeois bhadralok religious and social orthodoxy119120 During his Shelaidaha years his poems took on a lyrical voice of the moner manush the B uls39 man within the heart and Tagore39s life force of his deep recesses or meditating upon the jeevan devata the demiurge or the living God within17 This figure connected with divinity through appeal to nature and the emotional interplay of human drama Such tools saw use in his Bh nusi ha poems chronicling the RadhaKrishna romance which were repeatedly revised over the course of seventy years121122The time that my journey takes is long and the way of it longI came out on the chariot of the first gleam of light and pursued my voyage through the wildernesses of worlds leaving my track on many a star and planetIt is the most distant course that comes nearest to thyself and that training is the most intricate which leads to the utter simplicity of a tuneThe traveller has to knock at every alien door to come to his own and one has to wander through all the outer worlds to reach the innermost shrine at the endMy eyes strayed far and wide before I shut them and said the halfhearted uptake of modernist and realist techniques in Bengali literature by writing matching experimental works in the 1930s124 These include Africa and Camalia among the better known of his latter poems He occasionally wrote poems using Shadhu Bhasha a Sanskritised dialect of Bengali he later adopted a more popular dialect known as Cholti Bhasha Other works include Manasi Sonar Tori Golden Boat Balaka Wild Geese a name redolent of migrating souls 125 and Purobi Sonar Tori39s most famous poem dealing with the fleeting endurance of life and achievement goes by the same name and string quartet Alexander Zemlinsky39s famous Lyric Symphony Josef Bohuslav Foerster39s cycle of love songs Leo Jan ek39s famous chorus Potuln lenec The Wandering Madman for soprano tenor baritone and male chorus JW 443 inspired by Tagore39s 1922 lecture in Czechoslovakia which Jan ek attended and Garry Schyman39s Praan an adaptation of Tagore39s poem Stream of Life from Gitanjali The latter was composed and recorded with vocals by Palbasha Siddique to accompany Internet celebrity Matt Harding39s 2008 viral video129 In 1917 his words were translated adeptly and set to music by AngloDutch composer Richard Hageman to produce a highly regarded art song Do Not Go My Love The second movement of Jonathan Harvey39s One Evening 1994 sets an excerpt beginning As I was watching the sunrise from a letter of Tagore39s this composer having previously chosen a text by the poet for his piece Song Offerings 1985130PoliticsMain article Rabindranath Tagore39s political viewsGurudev and the Mah tm Ahmedabad 1920Tagore39s political thought was tortuous He opposed imperialism and supported Indian nationalists 131132133 and these views were first revealed in Manast which was mostly composed in his twenties40 Evidence produced during the Hindu German Conspiracy Trial and latter accounts affirm his awareness of the Ghadarites and stated that he sought the support of Japanese Prime Minister Terauchi Masatake and former Premier kuma Shigenobu134 Yet he lampooned the Swadeshi movement he rebuked it in The Cult of the Charka an acrid 1925 essay135 He urged the masses to avoid victimology and instead seek selfhelp and education and he saw the presence of British administration as a political symptom of our social disease He maintained that even for those at the extremes of poverty there can be no question of blind revolution preferable to it was a steady and purposeful education136137So I repeat we never can have a true view of man unless we have a love for him Civilisation must be judged and prized not by the amount of power it has developed but by how much it has evolved and given expression to by its laws and institutions the love of humanity S dhan The Realisation of Life 1916138Such views enraged many He escaped assassination and only narrowly by Indian expatriates during his stay in a San Francisco hotel in late 1916 the plot failed when his wouldbe assassins fell into argument139 Yet Tagore wrote songs lionising the Indian independence movement140 Two of Tagore39s more politically charged compositions Chitto Jetha Bhayshunyo Where the Mind is Without Fear and Ekla Chalo Re If They Answer Not to Thy Call Walk Alone gained mass appeal with the latter favoured by Gandhi141 Though somewhat critical of Gandhian activism 142 Tagore was key in resolving a Gandhi Ambedkar dispute involving separate electorates for untouchables thereby mooting at least one of Gandhi39s fasts unto death143144Repudiation of knighthoodTagore renounced his knighthood in response to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in the repudiation letter to Chelmsford the Vicerory he wrote The time has come when badges of honour make our shame glaring in the incongruous context of humiliation and I for my part wish to stand shorn of all special distinctions by the side of those of my countrymen who for their so called insignificance are liable to suffer degradation not fit for human beings 1Santiniketan and VisvaBharatiTagore despised rote classroom schooling in The Parrot39s Training a bird is caged and forcefed textbook pages to death145146 Tagore visiting Santa Barbara in 1917 conceived a new type of university he sought to make Santiniketan the connecting thread between India and the world and a world center for the study of humanity somewhere beyond the limits of nation and geography139 The school which he named VisvaBharati had its foundation stone laid on 24 December 1918 and was inaugurated precisely three years later147 Tagore employed a brahmacharya system gurus gave pupils personal guidance emotional intellectual and spiritual Teaching was often done under trees He staffed the school he contributed his Nobel Prize monies 148 and his duties as stewardmentor at Santiniketan kept him busy mornings he taught classes afternoons and evenings he wrote the students39 textbooks149 He fundraised widely for the school in Europe and the United States contemporary thinker152 Tagore39s Bengali originals the 1939 Rab ndra Rachan val is canonised as one of his nation39s greatest cultural treasures and he was roped into a reasonably humble role the greatest poet India has produced153Who are you reader reading my poems an hundred years henceI cannot send you one single flower from this wealth of the spring one single streak of gold from yonder cloudsOpen your doors and look abroadFrom your blossoming garden gather fragrant memories of the vanished flowers of an hundred years beforeIn the joy of your heart may you feel the living joy that sang one spring morning sending its glad voice across an hundred years The Gardener 1915154Tagore was renowned throughout much of Europe North America and East Asia He cofounded Dartington Hall School a progressive coeducational institution155 in Japan he influenced such figures as Nobel laureate Yasunari Kawabata156Tagore39s works were widely translated into English Dutch German Spanish and other European languages by Czech indologist Vincenc Lesn 157 French Nobel laureate Andr Gide Russian poet Anna Akhmatova 158 former Turkish Prime Minister B lent Ecevit 159 and others In the United States Tagore39s lecturing circuits particularly those of 1916 1917 were widely attended and wildly acclaimed Some controversies involving Tagore possibly fictive trashed his popularity and sales in Japan and North America after the late 1920s concluding with his near total eclipse outside Bengal4 Yet a latent reverence of Tagore was discovered by an astonished Salman Rushdie during a trip to Nicaragua160By way of translations Tagore influenced Chileans Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral Mexican writer Octavio Paz and Spaniards Jos Ortega y Gasset Zenobia Camprub and Juan Ram n Jim nez In the period 1914 1922 the Jim nezCamprub pair produced twentytwo Spanish translations of Tagore39s English corpus they heavily revised the The Crescent Moon and other key titles In these years Jim nez developed naked poetry161 Ortega y Gasset wrote that Tagore39s wide appeal owes to how he speaks of longings for perfection that we all have Tagore awakens a dormant sense of childish wonder and he saturates the air with all kinds of enchanting promises for the reader who pays little attention to the deeper import of Oriental mysticism Tagore39s works circulated in free editions around 1920 alongside those of Plato Dante Cervantes Goethe and TolstoyTagore was deemed overrated by some Graham Greene doubted that anyone but Mr Yeats can still take his poems very seriously Several prominent Western admirers including Pound and to a lesser extent even Yeats criticised Tagore39s work Yeats unimpressed with his English translations railed against that Damn Tagore We got out three good books Sturge Moore and I and then because he thought it more important to know English than to be a great poet he brought out sentimental rubbish and wrecked his reputation Tagore does not know English no Indian knows English4162 William Radice who Englished his poems asked What is their place in world literature163 He saw him as kind of countercultural bearing a new kind of classicism that would heal the collapsed romantic confusion and chaos of the 20th century162164 The translated Tagore was almost nonsensical 165 and subpar English offerings reduced his transnational appeal anyone who knows Tagore39s poems in their original Bengali cannot feel satisfied with any of the translations made with or without Yeats39s help Even the translations of his prose works suffer to some extent from distortion EM Forster noted of The Home and the World that the theme is so beautiful but the charms have vanished in translation or perhaps in an experiment that has not quite come off Amartya Sen Extra Marital Affairs Why this Happens in Astrologically

I was going through this article in September 2012 issue of astromindsclubcom and found it very much in depth in analysis of modern days problems due to lack of ethical and spiritual standard maintained by us It is easy to blame a person who is at fault but have we ever wondered that our fate and planets could be behind this Author of the original text in the magazine was trying to show what was behind actually for such condition Extra marital relation or illicit relation has a connection in our planets and stars topic is in the page 3840 of the magazine Which Planets are behind Unfaithful Partner Extra Marital Relation By ParamaPerhaps root cause of all problem is break of trust in any relation we deal with In case of those relation which are based on mutual trust love dependency on physical and mental need suffers most if any one breaksMarriage or Live in relations are top on the list which gets affected due to this breaks Today we will discuss a teething issue which is now a days concern for all most every other house hold Fast life style lack of time for each other unsatisfied sex life coupled with tension and financial pressure makes and ideal candidate for Extra Marital Condition But fortunately not all of them have to pass through this hale like condition but do really suffer while other partner feels they are enjoying but in actual they are also victim of the problemI have came across many clients from almost all walks of life who has faced this problem in last 10 yearsDue to fast life style we are running after materialistic physical pleasure demand for not required items and to achieve these we are using all means and modes which may be not be inline with ethical and moral standards In present days a group of person is trying to take advantage while other side is ready to give the facilities to fulfill unethical sexual desire One is running after another just to have physical pleasure where no mental bondage of relation is there Love has taken a back seat and crude enjoyment physical desire is now the driver for such relation Right from the social networking sites to the circle of friends people are getting involved in illicit relations out side marriage Why such thing happens Why a person gets involved in the 1st place itself Do planets have any influence on the same Does the Natal Chart indicates that you are going to have a extra Marital relation Lets see the basic causes of extra marital relations as per Ancient Vedic Astrology way According to this method influence of Mars Rahu or Ketu in 4th 6th 12th house or 5th from 7th house or 5th of 7th is influenced by malefic planets or Jupiter and Venus connection in 5th of 7th House indicates that person will suffer from illicit or extramarital relation If 7th or 2nd lord is influenced by or viewed by Venus or Venus is in these place or 10th lord is in 7th with Venus the person will fall in to illicit relation due to strong sexual desire apart from that if 7th lord is connected with Rahu or Ketu then every possibility this person will fall in the trap of extra marital or illicit relation Also review of transit of planets needs to be judged during that time for the person is extremely required for the correct prediction We will examine these factors from a person s birth chart who was suffering from these problems This person is a well placed IT professional with big organization having a lovable wife with complete family and good fortune in terms of family wealthThere is absolutely no reason socially or financially or other wise for worry in this person s personal or professional life But still he is involved in such relation See the chart below in the magazineLets see what are the factors made him debauch 1 Sun and Mercury in 7th house2 7th lord Venus in 6th with Saturn Jupiter3 Ascendant lord is in 8th with Star of Mercury 18N Jyestha Nakshatra relation with Mercury in 7th through star4 Rahu in 4th and connected with Aslesha has increased the effect5 Person s Sun Mercury is under influence Star of Rahu means Sun Rahu Mercury under Star exchange condition6 In addition to the above 7th house is surrounded by Saturn and Mars which is a malefic effect on its own7 Person was having Rahu s Mahadasha and Mercury s Antar Dasaha If we deep study the Nabangsha Chart then we can find that 1 Saturn and Venus in 7th house and Venus seen by Mars2 7th Lord Mars is in 4th with Rahu infected Mars has worked like catalyst to connect Venus and Rahu So in natal chart Venus Rahu Mars is connected This indicates lack of moral and ethical character With minimum chance he will be involved in illicit relation Natal chart or in birth chart person s Rashi is Leo Moon in Sun s planet and Sun in 7th with Rahu s Planet and Moon seen by Rahu indicates the person is short tempered fickle minded person can not stay in any subject for long This had effect on her married life as well Hot temper was a negative factor in married life 4th house with Rahu indicates lack of peace at homely life Sun Mercury in 7th House indicates that her wife has independent opinion on life Hence less compatibility in life with wife Budhaditya yoga helps to take her independent decision Human mind is complex in nature no one knows when it will be ticked off by any word positively or negatively We have many lacks in our duties and responsibilities but still we think we are correct A common ally bye no one tries to understand them We try to see others small issues as bigger one and try to by pass our own faultsIn case of this person also same has happened He was blaming every thing on his wife and cleared of all his wrong deeds as after effect of his wife s problem Person s 7th lord 2nd lord which are at 6th house with Jupiter Saturn so relation with wife will be quarrel sum Saturn will give frustration in addition Earlier we have seen Sun Mercury connected with Rahu s star and in 7th house Mars is effected by 8th lord and lord of Asc Rahu s 9th sight Now if we consider Stars we can see that Rahu Mars Venus Jupiter connected relation has created a circumference of illicit relation Now Mar is in Mercury s Star Jyestha Mercury is in Rahu s Star Swati and Rahu in Mercury s Star Aslyesha Venus is in Monn s Star Hasta and Jupiter is in Sun s Star Uttar Phalguni moon in Sun s Star Uttar Phalguni So Rahu Venus Mars are connected through exchange of Stars relations The person had illicit relation earlier also but he did not confess in front of me but I saw when he came to me it was Mercury Mahadasha At that point of transit time 2nd house of the native Taurus is filled with Sun Mercury Venus Jupiter Ketu together In opposite Rahu was having direct sight on that group of planets Mas was on Leo in the transit that is Birth Rashi or Zodiac Mars was giving 4th sight to Rahu in Scorpio So Rahu as catalyst making connection between planets in Taurus and Mars indirectly This kind of planet constellation indicates person is having illicit physical relation at that point of time with out mental obligation in natal chart similar formation observed as like in transit After discussion I found that this to be true He was having a relation with a lady apart from his wife just to fulfill his sexual physical need and do not have any intention to make it a marriage just the lust for enjoyment He has no burden on his shoulder for this as if this has been planned by God and hence he has no fault on that part How much debouch a person can be He is blaming God for his misdeeds and unethical act So after this analysis I have come to the conclusions that our life is controlled by our birth chart planetary position So we must review our horoscope with experts to check if any kind of this planetary connections are there then we must be extremely cautious to avoid such temporary enjoyment as this only gives you momentary enjoyment with permanent damage to relations Which can not be fixed by any meansYou can not harm your partners feelings and trust just because of your own illicit relation This could be a medically unhealthy to as chance of STD Sexually Transmitted Disease due to multiple sex partner is paramount This kind of relation breaks the family and makes child orphan despite of they had every right to live a happy life So I suggest for god sake ask pardon to god and your partner and live a happy life I have suggested this person to have counseling by doctors of mental health along with meditation and daily puja of Lord Balaji to get back to normal life apart from standard stones as remedy

A Mumbai guy found a woman in mid20s lying unconscious outside Urban Tadka restaurant She was believed to be a victim of street fight and awaited immediate medical aidBut what happened next is a deep shame for the societyOften we come across incidents where ignorance costs life But then there are some that cost humanity December 16 2012 does that ring a bellThat night a girl lost her life parents lost their daughter humanity lost its hope and society lost its conscience What followed by was dharnas protests campaigns and policy reforms but has it really made any change in our mindsetsHe posted the horrifying encounter which left a shameful memory and deep hatred for the society in his mind forever Read whole story here To the Mumbai Police and the Urban Tadka chain of restaurantsTonight at 1245 am November 6 I was standing near the gate of the Urban Tadka restaurant located off the WE Highway near Thakur Complex smoking a cigarette when I heard some screams emanating from within the restaurant When I tried to locate the source all I could see was the restaurants staff crowded around two men and women The men seemed to be waving liquor bottles around cheering the woman that was hitting another The woman on the receiving end couldn t or wouldn t fight back and was knocked out a few seconds later Meanwhile a crowd of 1520 patrons joined the audience So far not one of them tried to break it up The crowd followed the two men and the woman outta the gate as the other one lied unconscious on the ground The manager of the restaurant asked the crowd to depart stating that there was nothing more to see When I asked him what he planned to do about the woman lying by the door he assured me that she would regain consciousness in a few minutes and leave As I tried to force my way through the gate a few others joined me and we tried to find out what happened and why no one came to her aid We were told not to touch her as we might face serious trouble upon further questioning the manager simply said Sir ladies ka matter he Beech me padoge to jail jaoge That pissed me off to no end I tried to revive her by splashing some cold water on her face but it didn t help I asked for a chair lifted her off the ground and sat her down She began breathing heavily and as I tried to hold her head up I felt the bump at the back of her skull I knew right then that she had a concussion and called for an ambulance The local hospital flat out denied any help stating that they cannot bring in patients who have suffered injuries in a street fight without a policeman escorting the victim The policemen showed up 20 minutes after the fact and as they walked up they said to each other beer piya he isne jaane de hosh aaega to dekh lenge and when I showed them the inch deep cuts on her arm that were bleeding profusely they said that those aren t fresh she got them a week ago and left the premisesI tried for the third time now to slap her and shake her and it worked The minute she regained consciousness the cops came running through the gates and instead of asking after her they catch me by the collar and ask me who I am and why I m touching her After I explained the whole damn thing again they gave me a choice either leave now or come to the station and wait in the cell with her till the woman constable arrives to file the case I m ashamed to say that I took the easy way out but not before I made sure that she was capable of leaving After she assured me I left with a bitter taste in my mouth and a deep hatred for the society that I live in a society where a 20 year old girl is judged and left for dead by the very fing people who swore to protect us no matter what the circumstancesIs this what my sister and every other girl should expect when they are in such dire need of the EMS And whatever the shit happened to all you men out there who are supposed to look out for our sisters FB post Rajiv ChemburkarNote Certain words were modified due to objectionable content

1934 and has grown to be the most visited one in the cityIf you want to see the lengths people are prepared to go to for devotion the Lalbaugcha Raja is the idol to visit It draws an average of 15 million people a day astonishing People simply believe that this Ganesh idol can fulfill their wishes and there39s a lot of media attention on itThere are two main lines to see the idol a general line and line for those wanting to make a vow or get a wish fulfilled navas The navas line takes devotees right to the idol39s feet whereas the general line offers viewing darshan from a distance of around 10 meters away Until recently it was common for the navas line to stretch snakelike for over five kilometers However the organizer has started providing huge air conditioned tents in the adjacent ground to accommodate everyoneLocation GD Ambedkar Road Lalbaug central MumbaiNearest Railway Station Walking distance from Lower Parel Curry Road and Chinchpolki stationsWaiting Time Can be 20 hours or more in the navas line General line takes around five hoursWhen to Visit It39s open around the clock However the busiest time is in the evening until midnightThe procession for the immersion visarjan starts out at 10 am from the Lalbaug market on the final day of the festival and takes the following route Lalbaug Bharat Mata Theatre Lalbaug Sane Guruji Marg Byculla Railway Station Clare Road Nagpada Dunkan Road Don Taki Sant Sena Maharaj Marg Kumbharwada Suthar Gully Madhav Baug CP Tank VP Road Opera House Girgaon ChowpattiLalbaug is a locality in Mumbai Bombay India Lalbaug lies in the approximate centre of Mumbai near Dadar and Parel and has been a famous centre for reunions of Hindus during their festivals especially the Ganesh festival There are prominent Ganeshotsav organizations in and around Lalbaug as well as many sculpture workshops Prior to the Ganesh festivals these workshops are flooded with varioussized statues of Ganesha the elephantheaded God which the people worship Lalbaug also marks the centre of different mills that flourished in Mumbai during British rule The Kohinoor Mill the Finlay Mill and the Morarjee Mill to name a few At that time most of the community worked in these mills and it was a major source of livelihood for a majority of themContentsHistoryThe Mandal formerly known as 39Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal Lalbaug39 was founded in 1934 1 because of a vow Navas for construction of the present Lalbaug Market at its existing place The market place at Peru Chawl was shut down in 1932 Hence the fishermen and vendors who used to sit in the open place prayed to Ganesha for a permanent place for their market With the consistent efforts and support of the then local CouncillorLate Shri Kuwarji Jethabhai Shah Dr V B Korgaonkar Shri Nakhawa Kokam Mama Bhausaheb Shinde Dr U A Rao and the local residents the landlord Rajabai Tayyabali agreed to give a plot for construction of a market As fulfillment of their wish the fisherman and the traders established the Ganesh Idol on 12 September 1934 The idol was dressed in the customary fashion of fisherman and since that day forward the Lord Ganesh has become popular as it fulfills the wishes of devotees The Mandal was formed in the era when the freedom struggle was at its peakDue to the communal riots in 1946 orders were issued to change the route of the Ganesh Immersion Procession However the then officebearers of the Mandal refused to change the route and after 21 days the procession followed the same route under the supervision of then Volunteers Pandurang alias Babu Sayle M S Pawar and Dattaram Joshi After independence the agenda of the Mandal was modified and accordingly the Mandal decided to contribute to the uplift of the country The Mandal donated its available assets to the Kasturba Fund the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Fund in 1947 and to Bihar Flood Relief Fund in 1959 The social issues were also highlighted in the plots during Ganesh FestivalDuring Silver Jubilee Year in 1958 two different plots viz 39Geeta Upadesh39 and 39Kaliya Mardan39 were set for 5 days each In this Silver Jubilee year eminent speakers such as M L Patil Honorable Minister of Bombay State Honorable Ganapatrao Tapase Honorable Govindrao Adik Honorable Maloji Nimbalkar Municipal Corporator Dr Narvane Govinrao Mahashbde Dy Editor Navakaal Vasantrao Kate Govardhandas Mapara of Kamgar Seva Sadan Kakasaheb Tambe delivered speechesAfter 1958 the number of devotees of Lalbaugcha Raja increased substantially Hence in 1960 the entertainment programmes and speeches were discontinued In the same year 39Navaratri Utsav39 was started and the programmes were organized during Navaratri Festival These transitions were carefully and neatly carried out by Chandrakant Khadye Chunilal Rathod Pranjivan Mehta and Shankar More During this period Late Shri Shamraom V Bodhe handed over the Hanuman Temple to the MandalDuring 1948 to 1968 the Mandal started some new traditions like 39Shri Satyanarayan Mahapooja39 39Pansupari Samarambha Get Together Function39 The Get Together Function is the ceremony of felicitation by offering roll of betel leaf with betel nuts known as PanSupari in Marathi During this get together eminent personalities of different fields office bearers of various mandals and wellwishers are invited This creates a friendly atmosphere for coordination and exchange of views for better performance of the festival and helps in improving relation among various mandals In this manner the mandal established a warm relationship with some mandals of Kumbharwada Durgadevi Duncan Road Kamathipura Khetwadi Navi Amrutwadi etc The participation of local mandals at night was started to control heavy number of devoteesDuring 1934 to 1968 Kunwarji J Shah Dr V B Korgaonkar H B Korgaonkar Dr U A Rao Dr Manju Madar Ramchandra Tawate B D Bandekar Raghunath Khamkar Pranjeevan Mehta Rambali Halwai Ram Jadhav were mainly responsible for development of the Mandal The amount accumulated from the Mandal activities was mainly used for development of the nation Mandal did its bit by contributing to the National Fund during floods at Bihar in 1959 and during the wars in 1962 and 1965In 1969 new generation came up with wide view under the leadership of Late Shri Vasantrao Bhosale Space requirement arose due to great extent of workload of the Mandal In 1970 renovation of the Hanuman Temple was proposed Accordingly the renovation work was commenced in 1971 and completed in 1973 along with a new office for the Mandal In 1975 Idol of Amba Mata Goddess Amba was established in the temple and the religious duties of Navratri festival were carried out in the temple thereafterSince 1976 a part of the balance amount of the Mandal was deposited as 39Shikshan Imarat Nidhi39It is the first mandal who contributed Rs1 Lakh to the 39Army Central Welfare Fund39 in 1999 for the families of the soldiers who scarified their lives to uphold the dignity of the Nation at Kargil and the same was handed over to then Governor of Maharashtra State Dr PC AlexanderVisarjan Tarafa Traditionally the Ganesh idols are immersed in water during its Visarjan Hence in order to immerse the idol of Lalbaugcha Raja Mandal always takes proper precautions so that the visarjan takes place in a manner the Raja deserves Accordingly after consulting some experts and experienced persons Mandal has purchased a Tarafa Iron Raft which makes it possible to dissolve the idol of Lalbaugcha Raja in deep sea water conveniently The Tarafa is prepared by Ms AV Engineering In 201011 the tarafas were imported from AustraliaPresent dayIn 2009 the Mandal expected around 10 million people to visit This 39Great Raja39Firstlook of lalbaugcha raja 2012 Mumbai The Architecture Of Thought

Take a step backAnalyse your thoughts from a third person s perspective The healthy ones the nasty ones all of them A simple thought trail can teach you more about yourself than you d thinkEvery individual thought you have stimulates one or more new ones These in turn generate multiple others In essence from the moment you wake up in the morning you generate a convoluted network of thoughts everydayThe sequence in which your thoughts progress shape some of the most important decisions of your life and also who you are as a human beingThere s a documentary I watched a couple of years ago which was made after a 23 year old woman was raped and murdered on a bus in India in 2012 There were interviews with the rapists and I still remember one particular interview out of the four as clear as day While watching as the man kept talking I kept forming a mental image starting from his first word to his last and how he interconnected all his thoughts inside his head I tried to view the entire incident from his perspective inculcating his morals and his mentality in generalOnce it was over I paused the documentary and analysed the thought trail I d attempted to create I blankly stared at the computer screen in bewilderment In all my life among the countless people I d interacted with never had I thought someone could have a mindset that obnoxious From the first word he d uttered that was a part of his first idea to the way he connected that to his subsequent thoughts it made my stomach churn Was it poverty lack of education poor upbringing I didn t knowApart from matters as serious as this you can scrutinize an activity as simple as buying a tshirt Say you see a blue tshirt in a store and you like it What were the preceding thoughts that made you draw that inference Did it catch your attention owing to the possible fact that you ve tried on similar blue tshirts before and you make them look good Does the girlguy you re into have a thing for the colour blue Do you have a thing for the colour blue Did you see some advertisement the previous week where a ripped model looked good in that TShirt I could go on and onThe point I m trying to make is every fibre responsible for your mentality can be traced from the thoughts you have and the way you interconnect them to form a network of thoughtsCreating a trail of thought to analyse your daily trails of thought help you introspect and get to know yourself better That s what this piece aims to achievePhotograph clicked by Rupam Bhattacharya

Why is December 21 2012 so special
Why is December 21 2012 so special

There have been many doomsday fears and all sorts of predictions and talks doing the rounds on the Internet And as the big day approaches the rumours are getting stronger But what exactly is going to happen on December 21st 2012 and why is it really so special Galactic alignmentTo begin with on December 21 2012 at exactly 1111 am the earth will be in exact alignment with the sun and the center of the Milky Way Galaxy This is a rare astrological event that occurs once every 26 000 years This has been so far the easiest and the simplest graphical explanation I have come across on the Internet to explain the galactic alignment which I would like to share refer to the image on the left Image source httpwwwmaya12212012com2012galactichtml In simple words before December 2012 we were on top of the Milky Way On December 21st 2012 we will be exactly on level with the crust at the Galactic Equator where galactic gravity is the strongest After 2012 we will be passing through the bottom zone viewing the Milky Way from the South A new cycle beginsAccording to available information the Mayan calendar is based on five cycles of time with each period lasting 5 125 years Apparently we are now at the end of one of these cycles Not just that it is also said that we are at the end of the fivecycle period I guess that explains the origin of all the doomsday fears 1111In terms of numerology when you add 2112 2012 you get a master number 11 It cannot be a coincidence that the age we are entering into is also the age of the Aquarius which happens to be the 11th sign of the zodiac It is strange that many people all over the world keep seeing this master number I am one of them I don t wear a wrist watch But in a strange way at precisely 1111 or 1212 or even my birth time 1155 am I happen to look at the time on my computer or I happen to catch 1111 or 1212 on my mobile It felt strange when in the midst of work or anything that I am doing suddenly my eyes observe 1111 or 1212 I don t do anything except acknowledge the sovereignty of that particular time I just stop whatever I am doing Today I understand the 1111 significance It was as if the universe was giving us a sign of the things to come Some others feel that it works like guidance from the universe giving you a sign that whatever you re feeling or doing at that particular moment is right Move into new DimensionThis date also heralds the transition to the fifth dimension Currently it is said that we are in the third dimension 3D where our thoughts and beliefs are rigid For example the concept of unconditional love does not exist in the 3rd dimension But if you have experienced or felt unconditional love or peace you have actually moved into a fourth dimensional 4D consciousness It is also said that on an individual level the transition from 3rd to 5th dimension will be hard for some Source httpwwwin5dcomwhatdoyoumeanthe3rddimensionisgoingawayhtml Higher levels of consciousnessI love gazing at the stars moon sky admiring nature It is said that you derive energy when you look at the stars So yesterday night as usual I went out to my balcony and was gazing at the stars and talking something Then I remembered that only the sun was missing from my conversation I got up in the morning forgot all my talks and rushed through the day While I was sitting in the train despite the train being crowded and despite sitting in that part of the compartment where the sun s rays cannot reach me the sun s rays reached my face almost to the point of hurting my eyes for a good two to three minutes I looked around and found the rays were only upon my face Then I remembered my last night s conversation and smiled to myself It was as if the sun was telling me Julia I got your message from the stars and moon and here I am I don t know if this constitutes as higher levels of consciousness but yes I have become more attuned to nature ConclusionAll said and done one can conclude that a shift is definitely going to happen Not from within but from outside this time from our solar system Will there be a DNA upgrade ascensions to higher levels of consciousness end of the world new dimensions nobody really knows After reading everything I could on this subject all I can say is that stay positive and send love light and peace to all including yourself This time no Happy New Year but a Happy Positive New Age to all

Murar Declaration and the InterFaith Spircon 2010 A Historic Event Held in Agra We are all pilgrims treading the same path and desirous of reaching the same destination ultimately Satsang movement has been started to spread the true religion and peace and tranquility in the world and to draw people towards the Holy Feet of Huzur Radhasoami Dayal This object can be better served by maintaining mutual affection and brotherly relations among different Centres of Radhasoami Faith and working in cooperation to attain the common goal 39as the object of worship of everyone is the same ie Merciful Radhasoami and the Original Home of everyone is the same ie the Abode of Radhasoami and the real teachers of everyone are the same Bani and Discourses of Merciful Radhasoami obviously then all should have amity and heartfelt love and affection for each other39 Huzur Maharaj Prem Patra The letter of Invitation was sent to Revered Leaders of seven Centres and also the draft of proposed Declaration Param Purush Puran Dhani Soamiji Maharaj was pleased to declare the Satsang open to general public on the occasion of Basant in the year 1861 This can be said to be the day when Radhasoami Faith was started To mark the completion of 150 years of this momentous occasion a yearlong celebrations were organised in Dayalbagh and in all the Branches affiliated to it beginning from Basant 2010 and culminating at Holi 2011 Coincidentally during this period Radhasoami Satsang Sabha which is the main organising body of Dayalbagh Satsang also completed its 100 years in March 2010 Apart from a Special Meeting for thanksgiving held on 26th March 2010 the precise date at Dayalbagh a special session of the Sabha was also held at Murar which is the birthplace and home of Param Guru Sarkar Sahab the fourth Revered Leader of the Faith and under whose inspiration the Sabha was formed In this year of general rejoicing and thanksgiving it was felt that it would be in fitness of things to send out a message of goodwill and cooperation to various Satsang Centres inspired by the Message of Param Guru Huzur Maharaj the second Revered Leader of the Faith in the Prem Patra We are all pilgrims treading the same path and desirous of reaching the same destination ultimately Satsang movement has been started to spread the true religion and peace and tranquility in the world and to draw people towards the Holy Feet of Huzur Radhasoami Dayal This object can be better served by maintaining mutual affection and brotherly relations among different Centres of Radhasoami Faith and working in cooperation to attain the common goal 39as the object of worship of everyone is the same ie Merciful Radhasoami and the Original Home of everyone is the same ie the Abode of Radhasoami and the real teachers of everyone are the same Bani and Discourses of Merciful Radhasoami obviously then all should have amity and heartfelt love and affection for each other39 It was considered desirable that the Radhasoami Satsang Sabha Dayalbagh should issue a Declaration emphasising the need for maintaining brotherly and good relations amongst all Centres which would help in spreading the Message of Huzur Radhasoami Dayal faster and more effectively and bring about understanding of the Religion The joint statement issued by Param Guru Sahabji Maharaj the Fifth Revered Leader and the Founder of Dayalbagh and Baba Sawan Singh ji Maharaj the second Revered Leader of Beas Satsang when he visited Dayalbagh in 1932 provided the guiding principle The Joint Statement stated that because of the understanding reached about the commonality of fundamental beliefs held and practices followed at the two Centres Satsangis connected with Radhasoami Satsang Sabha Dayalbagh and Beas Satsang will be able to maintain brotherly and affectionate relations with each other Both the Satsangs will make arrangement for their Satsang independently and every Satsangi will have the right to join the Satsang of his choice and to follow the lead of Head of the Satsang Whose Guidance he likes The Satsangis would make effort to strengthen the relations of brotherly love They should abstain from unnecessarily instilling their own ideas and feelings in the minds and hearts of other Satsangis THE CONCLAVE Those Who Attended In keeping with the concept of Murar Declaration and its objective it was considered desirable to enlarge the basis for cooperation among different Centres of Radhasoami Faith in the light of the observations made by Param Guru Huzur Maharaj as cited in the note regarding Murar different traditions of Radhasoami Faith on 14th November 2010 at Dayalbagh In sending out invitations for participation for the Conclave three criteria were identified that they should 1 recognise Param Purush Puran Dhani Soamiji Maharaj as Avtar of Radhasoami Dayal 2 accept Radhasoami Naam as the true Nij Naam and consider 3 the practice of Surat Shabda Yoga under the guidance of a living Sant Satguru as the way for attaining salvation Accordingly the letter of Invitation was sent to Revered Leaders of seven Centres and also the draft of proposed Declaration on the lines of the one adopted by the Sabha at Murar was sent for consideration Revered Baba Kehar Singh Ji Maharaj of Taran Taran and Revered Kanwar Singh Sahab of Dinod participated in the Conclave The Revered Leaders of Beas and signed by Leaders of Dayalbagh Satsang Dinod and Taran Taran Satsang DECLARATION The following is the text of the Declaration which was signed by Revered Dr PS Satsangi Sahab Revered Baba Kehar Singh Sahab and Revered Kanwar Singh ji Radhasoami Dayal incarnated Himself in the year 1818 in the form of Param Purush Puran Dhani Soamiji Maharaj in this world for the redemption of jivas On Basant day in 1861 He declared open His Satsang to public in general which was an event of unparalleled Mercy since the beginning of creation By His grace Satsang has been making steady progress ever since The Nijdhar has continued to function in different human forms continuously We have the assurance that the Nijdhar will not return until it had completed its task of redemption of all the jivas 2 In course of time several Centres of Radhasoami Satsang have got established It is with the strength of Nijdhar that the Sant Satgurus of different Centres are maintaining progress of their respective communities 3 We are all pilgrims treading the same path and desirous of reaching the same destination ultimately Satsang movement has been started to spread the true religion and peace and tranquility in the world and to draw people towards the Holy Feet of Huzur Radhasoami Dayal This object can be better served by maintaining mutual affection and brotherly relations among different Centres of Radhasoami Faith and working in cooperation to attain the common goal as the object of worship of everyone is the same ie Merciful Radhasoami and the Original Home of everyone is the same ie the Abode of Radhasoami and the real teachers of everyone are the same Bani and Discourses of Merciful Radhasoami obviously then all should have amity and heartfelt love and affection for each other 4 As Satsang completes 150 years it is the right time to take an initiative in this direction We recognise all those belonging to larger Radhasoami community who satisfy the following criteria A Recognise Param Purush Puran Dhani Soamiji Maharaj as Avtar of Radhasoami Dayal B Accept Radhasoami Naam as the true Nij Naam and C the practice of SuratShabdaYoga under the guidance of a living Sant Satguru as the way for attaining salvation In order to strengthen the Satsang movement for attainment of its goal we make the following declaration 1 That all Satsang Centres and the Satsangis affiliated to them would maintain and promote brotherly relations and affectionate behaviour towards the followers of Radhasoami Faith attached to different Centres 2 Each Centre will continue to make separate arrangement for Satsang as it deems proper It will be open to a Satsangi to join any Centre according to hisher inclination and to follow the lead of the Sant Satguru Whose Guidance heshe wants 3 Each Centre will be free to manage its properties according to its wishes but access to the shrines under their management will be provided to the followers of the Faith attached to different Centres 4 No Satsangi by any written word or utterance will make any statement which may be derogatory to other Satsang nor try to instil hisher ideas and feelings in the minds of others We enjoin upon Satsangis attached to various Centres to follow this Declaration in letter and spirit NOTE For the benefit of some in the West it should also be said Surat Shabd Yoga in all of the abovementioned communities is taught to students at no cost There is no charge no money involved whatsoever in order to learn the practice There are no membership fees or payments required for membership dues or monthly discourses In order to qualify to learn the Inner Light and Sound meditation practice known as Surat Shabd Yoga one simply needs to be willing to learn from a living teacher adhere to the vegetarian diet and the other basic ahimsa principles universally taught in all of the Sant Mat communities listed above An Inclusive Rather Than Exclusive Spirituality Kirpal Singh and the Lesson of Nag Hammadi by James BeanCopyright October 2012 All Rights Reserved The old school approach of sectarianism consists of a narrow belief that one39s own path is the oneandonly true one That39s the oldfashioned approach of shutting out the rest of humanity and the cosmos Fundamentalism can be a kind of mental tyranny or idolatry the worship of one39s own beliefsystem or interpretation as a god a finger pointing at the moon that often gets mistaken for the moon itself I love this passage from Maharshi Mehi on the dangers of sectarianism showing how hardheaded and hardhearted sectarianism is a form of violence Sectarianism according to enlightened Masters is not a virtue It is a vice Coexist In different times and different places saints appear and their followers name their religion according to the sage or saint who propounded that tradition The appearance of differences can be attributed to time place and language This gives rise to various labels for the common views held by all religions Likewise due to excessively zealous followers these seeming differences are often amplified When all sectarianism and the temporal and linguistic aspects are removed the basic principles of all the saints are in accord and the voices of the saints are in harmony There are the great world religions Hinduism Jainism Buddhism Taoism Zoroastrianism Judaism Christianity Islam Sikhism the Bahai Faith AboriginalIndigenousNative AmericanSami People etc In addition to comparative religion there is also comparative mysticism the study of various schools of spirituality or mystics that are or once were operating within many of these abovementioned faith communities East and West Viewing religions through this particular lens one39s list may include Kabbalah Gnosticism Valentinians Barbeloites Nassenes Manichaeans Cathers Bogomils Hesychasm Eastern Orthodox mysticism Syriac and other forms of Monasticism Quietism the Beguines Gottesfreunde or Friends of God to name a few in the Christian category Sufism numerous lineages of Saints Sant Satgurus and Bhaktas based in India The great Seth wrote this book He placed it in the mountain that is called 39Charaxio 39 in order that at the end of the times and the eras it may come forth and reveal the great invisible eternal Spirit The Gospel of the Egyptians The Godwritten holy secret book Gospel of the Egyptians The Nag Hammadi Library In December 1945 a collection of ancient scriptures fifty two books was unearthed near the village of Nag Hammadi in Egypt These texts had been placed in a clay storage jar sealed and buried sometime during the Fourth Century AD They most likely were hidden there at the time by monks who lived at a nearby monastery founded by Saint Pachomius They would have been sacred texts once part of the library of this monastic community one of several Pachomian monasteries operating in Egypt The god of time illusion has put a cover over the teachings of Saints and thus concealed them from humanity Swami Ji Maharaj Rather than confining themselves to only reading the Old and New Testaments or teachings exclusively from Orthodox Christian sources these monks had a surprisingly diverse collection of writings that can only be characterized as interfaith and multitradition In other words they were also studying the scriptures of other religions and mystical movements of their day The papyrus codices of the Nag Hammadi scriptures includes Christian texts such as the Gospel of Thomas a collection of the earliest known sayings of Jesus Dialogue of the Saviour Gospel of Mary Magdalene the Book of Thomas the Spiritual Athlete Teachings of Silvanus and Apocalypse of James Parts I II There are also many examples of mystical or Gnostic Jewish texts Perhaps the oldest book of the Nag Hammadi library Eugnostos the Blessed is one of many that originate with a sect known as the Sethians who practised a somewhat Kabbalahlike form of Jewish mysticism Several important Nag Hammadi books are part of the Corpus Hermeticum sacred texts of the Hermetic tradition an esoteric religious and philosophical mystery school or school of spirituality based in Egypt attributed to Hermes Trismegistus ThriceGreatest Hermes These include The Discourse on the Eighth and Ninth Heavens or Planes Asclepius and The Vegetarian Prayer of Thanksgiving Scholars have noticed there is a strong influence of Neoplatonism a mystical philosophy based on the teachings of Plato present in many of the Nag Hammadi texts and Gnostic gospels Both the Corpus Hermeticum and Nag Hammadi Library refer to India on a couple of occasions and one Nag Hammadi book by the name of Zostrianos mentions the Persian Prophet Zoroaster The books of Nag Hammadi are in the Coptic language and are copied by monks from much earlier Greek manuscripts Some of the writings seem to originate in Syria just north of Israel including the Gospel of Thomas Sayings of Jesus and book of Mar Sanes The Sentences of Sextus is a Pythagorean text a collection of proverbs popular with many during the early centuries CE The Pythagoreans were as the name suggests followers of Pythagoras a sect that believed in a fascinating combination of mathematics and mystical beliefs and practices including reincarnation transmigration of the soul and hearing the Music of the Spheres the Harmony of All Harmonies They also adhered to a vegetarian diet In fact for most of the last two thousand years in the western world the word vegetarian has been synonymous with Pythagorean such was their influence on Pagan Jewish and Christian traditions Vegetarians have been referred to as Pythagoreans up until recently when the word vegetarian became fairly popular Some of the scriptures of Nag Hammadi are from a moderate more mainstream Gnostic Christian movement called the Valentinians founded by Saint Valentinus of Alexandria Many suspect that many of the Pachomian monks had been followers of Valentinus and brought their scriptures with them when they joined the monastery near Nag Hammadi From the point of view of the monks contemplating the words of these scriptures their interest was not a schizophrenic or contradictory eclectic spirituality All these writings do have much in common common themes and threads a universal wisdom that transcends narrow religious sectarian boundaries a rich treasuretrove of spirituality What a fascinating version of Christianity these people had a faith once entrusted to the Saints Book of Jude Wisdom leads the soul to the place of God The Sentences of Sextus Nag Hammadi Library The Lesson of Nag Hammadi These codices or scriptures of Nag Hammadi were buried after Bishop Athanasius condemned the use of noncanonical books in his infamous Festal Letter of 367 AD As a new conservative sectarian hardline leadership with it39s lists of approved and banned books imposed itself upon the monastic communities of Egypt it is believed that some monks took these forbidden books from the monastic library and hid them away thus rescuing them from certain destruction and this freespirited act ended up preserving them for future generations Now this collection of the sayings of Jesus known as the Gospel of Thomas rather than being the victim of censorship and the bookburning hysteria of the Fourth Century has it39s own website The Gospel of Mary Magdalene illustrating the leadership role of women during the early days of Christianity instead of being forever wiped from the pages of history is now the subject of great interest by many openminded spiritual seekers around the world The tyrant will not be able to take away happiness The Sentences of Sextus Nag Hammadi Library And there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed There is nothing buried that will not be raised Gospel of Thomas Planetary Lobotomy The loss of the Nag Hammadi Library and the destruction of the Library of Alexandria represent two spectacular examples of 39Planetary Lobotomy39 the unrestrained wanton destruction of the knowledge of humanity At least in the case of Nag Hammadi a large percentage of the texts have been restored to us Beware of today39s Athanasius types The spirit of Athanasius lives on in each generation seeking to take freedoms away seeking to blow up statues of Buddhas and Saints forbidding the study of unauthorized spiritual wisdom deliberately causing books to go out of print causing trouble for many seeking souls ever thinking up new rules and regulations The results of the imposition of overreaching rulemaking control and censorship in spiritual organizations despite the usual good intentions that are advertised ultimately leads to the loss of knowledge and wisdom of the Masters the dumbing down of a tradition The Pharisees and the scholars have taken the keys of knowledge and have hidden them They have not entered nor have they allowed those who want to enter to do so As for you be as sly as snakes and as simple as doves Gospel of Thomas As I39ve written in the past 39there is no permanent Institution or University of Mysticism but a declinerenewal process a continuous pattern of Masters making a fresh start in new locations remaining free to exist in genuineness and authenticity without a hierarchy of scribes and an evergrowing caste of Pharisees running the show surrounding the Master blocking him from our view Let39s just stick with visiting with the Master around the Bodhi or Banyen Tree of simplicity The true Masters do spend time with their disciples Personal interviews You bet Make every effort to enjoy their company whenever you can during this lifetime while both you and they are in the body The Master says What your own eyes cannot see your human ears do not hear your physical hands cannot feel and what is inconceivable to the human mind that I will give you The Gospel of Thomas Wisdom of the Twin Lynn Bauman White Cloud Press Administrative religious councils have been at war with enlightened souls since the beginning of time and ultimately seek to retire and replace living Masters altogether I remain suspicious of the institutionalization process the thirst and eagerness on the part of some to building ever larger buildings creating new committees and councils for themselves to rule over Only mystics care about mysticism Do not lay down any rule beyond what I ordained for you nor promulgate law like the lawgiver or else it will dominate you Yeshua Gospel of Mary Magdalene The Example of Kirpal Singh 18941974 Sant Kirpal Singh advised his students to follow a satsang template that included a long reading list of potential scriptures and sources of inspiration or instruction For the subject of a talk we may take up the hymns from any scripture preferably from the Masters of the Sound Current It may be supplemented by apt quotations from the parallel writings of other Master Saints The Holy Gospels themselves are full of such material as may fit in with such a context The illustrations from various Masters are essential so as to bring out the essential unity in the teachings of all the Saints Instructions For Holding Satsang by Sant Kirpal Singh To fill the human heart with compassion mercy and universal love which should radiate to all countries nations and peoples of the world To make a true religion of the heart as the ruling factor in one39s life To enable each one to love God love all serve all and have respect for all as God is immanent in all forms My goal is that of oneness I spread the message of oneness in life and living This is the way to peace on earth This is the mission of my life and I pray that it may be fulfilled Kirpal Singh Kirpal Singh was a prolific writer publishing scores of books over the years quoting from most every world scripture mystic poet philosopher and great Master that has ever existed spanning the centuries very much embodying this same curiosity and inclusive universal spirituality we find present in the Nag Hammadi Library of Egypt May the legacy of both always be remembered and honored for all time to come Kabbalah and Inner Light Sound Mysticism The mystical spirit that craves for a direct encounter with God for a fresh illumination of soul is not content with pondering a tradition even a mystical tradition To gain this boon the mystic must travel the lone road of meditation of struggling with his own opaque material self to break the barrier that separates him from God and to enter directly into contact with the divine mystery Rabbi Ben Zion Bokser SimranZikhrRememberingRepeating God39s Names To Thy Name and to Thy remembranceis the desire of our soulWith my soul have I desired Thee in the nightYea with my spirit within mehave I sought Thee earnestly Hebrew Bible Isaiah 26 89 And nothing lies in the power of a manKnow then that peace comes from understanding His WillSo wear His Name like a charm around your neck Meditating on Him alone And no harm shall approach you One can attain to the Spiritual World through the practice of outward and inward holiness excessive love of God and the delight in His recollection zikr and Holy Names Abraham heHasid Jewish Sufi mystic Ascending Through the Heavens Repeating Names of God The first century Rabbi Akiva ascended through the seven heavens and the seven palaces in the highest heaven by means of passwords uttered to the angelic gatekeepers His meetings with God were characterized by luminosity Joan Borysenko Seven Paths to God The Ways of the Mystic The Five Names Panch Naam of the Sethians a JewishGnostic Movement in Antiquity Name One Armozel of the first region Name Two Oroiael of the second region Name Three Daveithe of the third region Name Four Elethe of the fourth regionThe Fifth AeonFifth Name not translatedthe Divine is the allencompassing SelfBegotten OneThe Nag Hammadi Scriptures Throughout Jewish history many of the rabbis and sages believed that direct experience of God is possible resulting in a higher type of knowledge than can be gained by means of intellect Aside from the visions of the prophets recorded in the Bible the rabbis based this belief on the passage in Psalms O Taste and see that the Lord is good Happy is the man that taketh refuge in Him Psalm 349 The word taste is very graphic tangible and nonintellectual It suggests knowledge through direct experience of the divine essence rather than by thinking or reasoning Similarly many Indian and Muslim mystics have sung of their experience of the Divine in meditation as tasting the inner ambrosia the spiritual food and as drinking the inner nectar The rabbis of the Talmud interpreted God39s command to Abraham in the Bible lekh lekha go to yourself Genesis 1212 as meaning go within yourself The Jewish mystics of the Sufi tradition as well as the later Kabbalists of Safed and elsewhere practiced various forms of meditation in order to obtain knowledge of God For example according to the thirteenthcentury Spanish Jewish mystic Isaac ibn Latif even the highest type of intellectual understanding reaches only the back of the Divine but a picture of the face of the Lord can be gained through supraintellectual ecstasy which is an experience even higher than prophecy Ibn Latif calls this type of direct perception the beatitude of supreme communion Meditation is the proper mystic training that brings the soul in direct contact with the divine reality and the beatitude of supreme communion In meditation one learns to detach the soul from the mind and body and merge it in the Lord its Source The spiritual Master the mystic comes to this world to teach a method of freeing the soul the spark from the shell of mind and illusion so it can merge back into God This is the real unification or yoga All saints teach that the creation came from the Word the holy Name of God the Shabd the divine energy of life the divine music the audible life stream which activates the creation and manifests as sound and light emanating from EnSof the realm of pure Spirit The goal of spiritual practice is to reverse this process of creation on an individual level of the soul39s separation from the divine source and imprisonment in matter Jewish mystics call it tikkun 39fixing 39 but Indian mystics simply describe it as the merging of the soul into its divine source so that it never again has to experience separation and imprisonment in the material creation Miriam Bokser Caravella The Holy Name Mysticism in Judaism Close one eye and open the other Close one to the world and all Interpretation of Scripture on Nonvegetarian Food O Learned and Devoted Servants of God July 15 2012 Dr Nikhil asked Swami that several participants in a spiritual meeting quoted the Veda and the other scriptures which speak in favor of nonvegetarian food They asked him about Swami speaking against the nonvegetarian food Dr Nikhil asked Swami about this Swami gave the following message in reply to that Reply of Swami Eating the nonvegetarian food is one issue and killing a living being to collect the flesh out of it is another issue The first issue does not involve any sin because the nonvegetarian food or flesh or meat contains the same ingredients as those of a vegetarian item The same carbohydrates the same proteins the same vitamins the same minerals etc exist in both meat and vegetables Therefore to eat the flesh of a living being which died naturally through old age is not a sin Kapalikas a sect of Hinduism eat the dead bodies and therefore they are not considered as sinners since this sect of religion is respected But the flesh of the living being which dies due to old age is not recommended because generally the death of an old living being happens due to some disease Then the flesh of such a living being is not good for the reasons of health But the living being might have been killed through some accident or by some cruel animal and the flesh left over may be hygienic In such case the nonvegetarian food need not be rejected on the ground of sin because the eater of such flesh neither killed it nor had any intention to kill it In any case there is no sin in eating the nonvegetarian food provided you neither kill the living being nor you should be responsible for killing it You may say that you eat the meat but you did not kill the living being directly with your hands Since you eat the meat you have become the consumer of the meat The butcher who kills the animals or birds kills these animals or birds only for the sake of consumers in his business Therefore even though you did not kill the living being directly with your hands you have become the indirect supporter of it by eating the meat Hence you have to share the sin If you finding the killed living being through an accident and if you collect its flesh you do not share the sin But beware that your taste of such accidental meat may increase slowly and you may kill the animal directly or indirectly in course of time for the meat Hence it is better to avoid the meat from the beginning itself The sin comes only if you kill the living being directly or become responsible for its killing indirectly and you have to face the punishment of such a sin You may find the Veda or the scriptures speaking about the nonvegetarian food and killing of a living being in sacrifice By this you should not think that the Veda or the scripture provokes you to kill the animal In fact the scripture controls you to kill the animal by suggesting the sacrifice to be done in a specified season like spring only VasanteVasantejyotishaayajeta The sacrifice called Jyotishtoma should be performed only in spring season By this you control the killing of animal in other seasons You cannot totally oppose the killing of animal in the beginning itself Instead of killing the animal every day or every week you can allow the killing of animal once in a year only This reduces the killing of the animal gradually and finally you can avoid the killing forever This is just like running along a running bull for some distance before you control it We cannot control the running bull in the very first step itself You have to run along with it for sometime before you control it Such running of a person should not be misunderstood as encouragement of running Even if the person does not run the bull will run Even if the scripture does not advise the killing of animal in the sacrifice to be performed once in a year the killing of the animal for the meat will not be stopped In fact the killing of the animal in the absence of such instruction will take place more frequently Shankara had clarified this point in His commentary by saying that the defective nature of the human being Pravrutti is not encouraged by the Veda Following the defective nature of the human being the Veda suggests the sacrifice This does not mean that the Veda initiates the defective nature in the human being Shankara said Shastramjnapakamnatukarakam This means that the scripture gives the advice based on the naturally existing defective nature in the human being and that the scripture is not the initiator of the defective nature Scripture Aims in Total Eradication of Defective Nature with Time In fact if you analyze carefully the advice given by the scripture is also in the direction of total eradication of the defective nature in course of time The scripture says that the fisherman should not catch fish in the river Ganga By this the scripture controls the catching of fish in one place at least The scripture further says that the fisherman should not catch the fish on the days of Divine festivals at least By this the scripture is controlling the killing of fish on some days at least Finally the scripture says that you should not kill the fish at any place on any day and such stage is called as Mahavratam which is irrespective of place and time You should not mistake that the scripture encourages the killing of fish on other days and in other rivers This is the wrong side of the conclusion and this is said to be the misunderstanding of the scripture The correct side is that the scripture tries to control the sin gradually by restricting in one place and on some days at least Allowing the sin on other days does not mean encouraging the sin Control brings the reduction of sin and slowly the sin can be completely eradicated Bhavabhooti says in Uttararamacharitam that the cow is killed when the guest comes Eshagowhmatamatayate This is the indication of reduction of sin which means that you should not kill the cow for your sake on other days This avoids killing the cow frequently for the sake of your food The complete control of the sin can be found in the Veda that the person killing a cow should be shot dead Goghnamseesenaviddhyamah Therefore the scripture always tries to control the sin and never encourages the sin Eating the meat is not a sin if you limit the vision to the process of eating and the eaten material But you indirectly encourage the killing of animal by eating the meat since the animals are only killed for the sake of consumers The meaning of the Maamsa meat is that you will become the animal and the presently killed animal will become the butcher in the next birth Maamsahyathaahinastipashchaatjanmanitathaaaham tam hanishyaami The animal during the process of killing thinks that the butcher should become the animal and it should become the butcher in the next life so that the butcher should understand the pain in the process of killing The medical science has already investigated that the proteins in the meat are secondary and therefore the flesh is not a healthy food The proteins in the vegetables are primary and are good for health If all the humanity is confined to vegetarian food only there is no dearth of food on this earth because the omnipotent God is capable of supplying the vegetarian food to all the living beings Of course there will be very little pain even to the plants while cutting the vegetables and leaves But this pain is extremely negligible compared to the pain experienced by the animals and birds in the process of killing The plants and trees also should not be cut Only the fruits and leaves can be plucked Parvati was called Aparna since She did penance eating the leaves which fell from the trees and She never even plucked those leaves This is the extreme step of nonviolence However the negligible sin can be overlooked like the minor error in scientific experiments Somebody has beaten a person That is also pain But killing the same person gives extreme pain There is quantitative difference in the sin By qualitative similarity you should not say that beating is equal to killing The nonvegetarians argue that the plants also experience pain in the process of plucking the leaves and hence killing the animal is equal sin Both are sins but both are not quantitatively equal The extremely minor sin can be overlooked and neglected Therefore such argument is not valid You should carefully understand the scripture before you quote it If you do not properly understand it it becomes misquotation Hence the analysis is important The scripture analysis and experience are the three sides of the authority The analysis is the most important The experience of a defective person may be wrong and cannot be an authority The scripture also may be wrong due to the interpolation of some mischievous person Only the analysis can decide the truth When Swami Vivekananda was speaking some point somebody pointed out that Shankara said the same point in opposing way Then Vivekananda told that Shankara may be wrong What is the meaning of this Shankara can never be wrong But some ignorant person might have introduced a wrong statement in the commentary of Shankara and that statement may be the opposing point Therefore every statement of the commentary of Shankara should be analyzed with perfect sharp logic and scientific analysis We find often people saying that so and so told in a different way You should not care for anybody except for your sharp logical analysis Sometimes you might have misunderstood the scripture as said above Scripture like the Veda was never interpolated by anybody since it was preserved through recitation from the beginning In such case misunderstanding of the scripture is possible Such misunderstanding also vanishes by the sharp analysis Therefore accept anything only when it is filtered through the perfect scientific analysis
